Why Microsoft Won E3 2014

Microsoft's press conference in particular was focused solely on games. With exclusives like Sunset Overdrive and The Master Chief Collection coming later this year, and newly announced games like Scalebound coming in 2014, Xbox One owners received the reassurances they needed that Microsoft had learned from its mistakes and would continue to listen to its fans. And the Xbox 360 is still going strong with multiplatform games from almost every publisher. In 2015 we'll start to see a larger number of current-gen only games, but 2014 is still about making games that play on consoles new and old.

I applaud Phil Spencer's direction. He only talked about games as he promised. However, this conference was way overhyped by fans.

House of games my ass... Microsoft showed more 3rd parties and Exclusive/timed content than 1st party games. They only surprised me with Scalebound and Master Chief Collection. Those are the only tittles I'm keeping a eye on. The rest were good as well

Overall, Solid presentation, but way overhyped by fans

"However, this conference was way overhyped by fans."

Yeah, I agree it was.

"House of games my ass... Microsoft showed more 3rd parties and Exclusive/timed content than 1st party games."

Sony's conference was full of that as well. What you say about MS is the exact same thing you can say about Sony I dunno why ppl are having a hard time understanding that.

I'm pretty sure MS announced a little more with the likes of Scale Bound, Phantom Dust and Crack Down 3.

The only new AAA that was announced was Bloodborne and that F2P game Let it Die.

It does it matter at the end of the day. We can critique both conferences all the way into E3 2015 if we wanted but at the end of the day we both have something to look forward.

Like I said the fact gamers (and fanboys) are arguing or debating about "who won" E3 just means all 3 had kick ass showings this time around.

And that we can all agreeing on.

MS filled the conference with 3rd parties and exclusive content just like Sony filled theirs with TV stuff. Of course, i rather see games than unnecessary stuff, and that's why Microsoft's conference was slightly better. Sony showed less third parties and more 1st parties than MS. That's what I meant.

I don't argue about who won E3. The true winners are the gamers. I just give my opinion on the conferences: Solid presentations, MS was overhyped, Sony underperformed, and Nintendo delivered more than they did.

AngelicIceDiamond1585d ago

Your right MS E3 WAAYY over hyped. Sony slightly under performed. Nintendo did the best from a 1st party standpoint.

"The only new AAA that was announced was Bloodborne and that F2P game Let it Die"

SMH! you've been on every E3 game list article so you should know the real number of games, you even discussed them, selective amnesia maybe?

Sony had 25 exclusives all off them potentially AAA
XBone had 12 exclusives all of them could flop because of the X1's smaller market share.

XiYakushijuAkeginuXi1585d ago

@Angelic
How dare you now mention Little Big Planet 3!

Master-H1585d ago

"The only new AAA that was announced was Bloodborne and that F2P game Let it Die. "

LilBigPlanet3 ? Grim Fandango Remake ? Ratchet and Clank remake ?

Wh15ky1585d ago

I missed the presentations, just back from holiday. What turned out to be the big third party exclusive?

Pogmathoin1585d ago

XBone had 12 exclusives all of them could flop because of the X1's smaller market share.

Now your adding this..... you really stoop... but yet, every Sony owner will buy every single AAA game so none of them will flop.....

SMH! you've been on every E3 game list article so you should know the real number of games, you even discussed them, selective amnesia maybe?

You have been on every article that suggests MS had a good E3.... even telling us how many seconds per game from Sony, MS...... tunnel vision maybe?

alexkoepp1585d ago

Microsoft won easily and didn't even show the flagship title halo 5. I liked the game-centric conference, but honestly it would have also been nice to hear about more plans for the future of the console itself. Though the updates come out so fast by the time they talked about it, it would already be available to us. The Master Chief collection alone is going to provide more entertainment hours than every game Sony showed combined.

Both Sony and Microsoft showed way too many 3rd party and too little exclusives, but Microsoft's conference was better then Sony's (my opinion).

As for the best exclusives presented, that depends in what you like to play.

ALLWRONG1584d ago

N4G is the only place on the net where people actually believe Sony had a better E3.

FITgamer1585d ago

Why make "_____ Won E3." articles for each company? Just make a "Gamers Won E3." and showcase the highlights from each conference. S*** is stupid.

Jdoki1585d ago

Cus that would only be one sensible article. Rather than 3 click bait.

Don't be surprised if we ALSO see a 'Gamers won E3', 'Third party devs won E3', 'Indies won E3', 'E3 won E3' articles :)

Gamespot: Why Nintendo won E3

Vegamyster1585d ago

Followed by "Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft: Which Company Won E3 2014?"

lelo1585d ago

Opinions!

Gamespot: Why Sony won E3.
Gamespot: Why MS won E3.
Gamespot: Why Nintendo won E3.
Those 3 articles are written by 3 different authors. Thank God people have different opinions, otherwise gaming (and the World in general) would be boring.

Budobear1585d ago

I want to know what you get for winning E3?
Is there a big ass trophy, or hat or something?
How is the score kept and who is awarding the points and what do you get points for? Is it like diving or gymnastics where you get points for how hard something was as well as actually doing it well, or is it more like synchronised swimming where you get points of looking nice and smiling?

KakashiHotake1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

I felt Microsoft conference was pedestrian at best. Being that PS4 almost doubles their install base I was expecting a lot more. I was expecting to at least see some kind of new trailer for Halo 5 or Gears of War. And speaking of trailers most of what they shown was all CGI trailers. In terms of gameplay they really only showed a handful of games. Sunset Overdrive was their best game of the show and that really aint saying too much. I would count some of the 3rd party games but they will also be on PS4 and PC and look much better on those platforms so they don't really count. Halo collection looked cool but it's in the same category as "Tomb Raider the Definitive version." Overall I give Microsoft a grade of C+ for the conference which aint too bad considering last E3 they got a D.

marlinfan101584d ago

but let me guess, sony got a A++++++ right?

KakashiHotake1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

No actually I give Sony and Nintendo both a B. No one had a perfect show. I just feel Sony and Nintendo both had a better showing in terms of quality and innovation.
