Rise of Tomb Raider is cross-gen, also coming to last-gen consoles

If you hoped 2015 would be the year that cross-gen titles faded away to give space for more PS4/Xbox One only games then you'll be disappointed by the news that Rise of the Tomb Raider will also be coming to last-gen platforms.

So it probably won't look as good as it could.

Ryan7412213d ago

I think it depends on the size of the team etc. Alien Isolation is cross gen and looks amazing on X1/PS4 from what I've seen.

Army_of_Darkness2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

Hopefully they go all out with the current gen consoles first, then dumb it down for last gen's consoles...

Seems like Sony's first party studios are the only developers focused solely on current gen games.

No_Limit2213d ago

It is not confirmed. The Amazon site is the UK site but if you go to the US site, it only has the XB1 version listed and no other version. Also, Gamestop has no pre order page yet and I actually trust Gamestop pre order information than Amazon. When the Halo Master chief collection was announced, they had that game on XB360 as well and it was since taken off the website. I think the UK Amazon site is just guessing at this point as I'll wait for an official confirmation first before jumping into any conclusion.

That's a shame. But then again, who is buying this when uncharted is coming?

r3f1cul2213d ago

ummmm i'd guess everyone who doesnt have a ps4, and likes that style of game... or the thousands of tomb raider fans that actually still exist ... just a wild guess tho... dont be so narrow minded :/

What???? Last gen needs to end man....

Chucky20032213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

yes,100 mil owners on PS3 and 360 need to throw away their consoles, cause almost 20 mil and or less owners of these new consoles don't want the game to come on PS3 and 360,really!!!This is a business industry, grow up

MidnytRain2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

Last gen must die. Everyone else needs to grow up and get more money

vishmarx2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

despite the fact that i own a ps4,and tr will inevitably be held back by last gen.
i kinda agree, nex gen needs to sell a lot more than that to get 3rd complete party exclusivity

BattleAxe2213d ago

If you were all grown up with lots of money, you'd be gaming on a high end PC instead of squabbling about something so insignificant.

airshiraz2213d ago

so 200 mil ps2 owners must try this game too

AngelicIceDiamond2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

@Chucky I understand the demographic. In fact PS360 generation is by far the longest and biggest install base out of any other gen in history.

So yeah it only makes sense to continue to cater to last gen owners.

Pubs and devs need to get out of their bubble and start developing next gen only titles. PS4 and X1 are the new consoles they need the real push, people need a reason to go out and buy a new system.

Or what they could do is take the AC approach and have two different studio's working on the games.

Its important to note that early next gen owners including myself spent allot of money the new machines we want to play next gen games that's why we bought them.

I know some games are strictly next gen now which is a good thing. But sadly I believe pubs are gonna hang on to last gen allot longer than they did in the PS2 and OG Xbox era.

Money wise that just makes sense. Good for last gen owners bad for next gen owners.

Tell me, what other gen had such an abundance of cross generation titles? I remember, even with the 360/PS3/Wii, many new games not on the Xbox/PS2/GameCube.

As many have said, developers should focus on the current gen. It's mid 2014 and the generation began in November 2012. It's seriously time to consider, fully, moving on.

A few cross gen titles (such as the sports games), I can understand. But remaster after remaster, in addition to, cross gen multiplatform titles just feels like overkill.

spacedelete2213d ago

if you honestly think theres over 100 million active PS3 and 360s out there your as dumb and ignorant as you sound. most PS3 and 360s have died years ago some people have sold them because they are that old and about over 9 million people have moved on to next gen. after taking that into consideration it seems obvious.

if you can't afford next gen console then tough luck. it doesn't mean next gen owners have to suffer inferior and toned down games because a cheap ass like you stays in the past and a big reason is whenever theirs a next gen game its always outselling the old consoles now. just look at Thief, MGS ground zero, battlefield. last gen owners aren't even buying any games and living off their existing games and free games on psplus.

its time for developers to move on and force cheap asses like you to buy a next gen console or force you to live in the past

kreate2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

I love last gen.

Last gen is still a current gen for me.

vishmarx2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

it definitely does, but next gen really needs to start for that
nobody abandons a userbase of 150 mil for 20 mil.plain n simple.
more people need to buy a nex gen console for that.which they wont until they get exclusives, vicious circle indeed lol

Thatguy-3102214d ago

Seeing how the first one did they are pretty eager to get it into as many platforms as possible. I assume they have unrealistic expectations again.

N4GJD2214d ago

All these cross-generation titles need to stop! Why even bother purchasing a next generation console?

admiralvic2213d ago (Edited 2213d ago )

This is pretty much how it always goes... Big titles where they need to make money get last-generation releases and as the newer consoles get older, we start to see fewer and fewer last-generation titles until we finally hit a point where it's like "whoa, someone is still making PS3 / 360 games?!"

"Why even bother purchasing a next generation console?"

Generally exclusives are limited to next-gen (LBP being on the PS3 is actually a plus, since that means you will get more levels), games look / play better and more offers are generally targeted at you (just this past week PS4 users got the Hardline Beta, Destiny Alpha, E3 app that gave 250 Sony Reward points [this is halfway to a free $5 PSN voucher] and PlayStation Now beta codes.

Overall, if you don't like what is happening, then don't be a trend setter.

TheLastGuardian2213d ago

LBP games already have more levels than you could play in 5 lifetimes. I don't want more levels, I want less limitations.

arbitor3652213d ago

just let last gen die already so we can really start tapping into next gen potential

TheLastGuardian2213d ago

Yea, upgrade to next gen already you welfies.

annus2213d ago

Upgrade to PC already if you care about amazing looking multi-plat games welfies.
