Xbox One’s Ori and the Blind Forest wants to return to the good old days | MMGN Preview

MMGN: Despite its striking resemblance to Child of Light, Xbox One exclusive Ori and the Blind Forest shares little in common, other than an exquisitely pretty art style.

In its simplest form, Ori is a pixel perfect platformer, but beneath it’s so much more. Developer Moon Studios, which comprises of a talented team working from home across all corners of the world, has been making the game for four years.

The story is too old to be commented.

Watching the trailer for Ori and the Blind Forest was like watching Avatar for the first time, the colors an visuals was just amazing. The trailer also had a touching story, I'm going to make sure I support this game Day 1, even if I don't have time to beat it until XMAS break.

Finally, you are learning to bathe in the light of the indies! Awesome. Check out "Inside". I am excited for this title as well.

No_Limit1591d ago

hmm, this game is published by MS and is an actual MS owned IP. So how is it an indie?

Naga1591d ago (Edited 1591d ago )

I'm usually not a fan of these types of games, but this one has grabbed my attention and is not letting go.

Wow. Wow.

So let me get this straight?

The Xbox strong are now bending the rules to try and pretend that a game that fits the same category of an indie game in both visuals and 2D side scrolling gameplay is okay to praise while they were throwing knives at the great PS4 indie lineup.

I'm not downplaying the game cause it looks beautiful. I'm calling out the two faced Xbox fanboys. I hope you guys don't poke fun when RiME, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Shadow of the Beast, ABZU, No Man's Sky et all make their presence known.

Indy is a term that has lost a lot of meaning.

This is a published game, and looks like it has been made to the quality standards a publisher would demand.

Think XBox Live Arcade vs Xbox Live Indy Corner.

What people are weary of are self-published "I made a game!" efforts, of which the vast majority will be terrible (see aforementioned indie corner for examples. Thousands of examples.)

How both platforms manage proper self-published indies on their storefronts will define how welcome or annoying the indie craze is really going to be.

That game touched me in all the right places. Been watching videos and reading previews. Its really facinating. Seeing games like these from MS first party devs is great.

Pogmathoin1591d ago

I understand what your saying, but you could have worded it a lil bit better ;)

But it did touch me in all the right places.haven't felt so good in a

Naga1591d ago

@ digital raptor

I also thought it was an indie...but it's order for a game to be an indie it must be independently developed...they are not trying to spin anything...the game is just not an indie

@ Chris

Same here...I almost cried at the end of the trailer when the cat looking pushed what I think is either his friend or was simply beutiful

Volkama1591d ago

Carer, friend, maybe adopted parent. That's the impression I got.

The style and story were very appealing, the platformy style gameplay I'll reserve judgement on.

gamer11381591d ago

Looks so good...and cute! What? can a guy not use that world /:)

Lawboy21591d ago

Really look good....but I really have never had the urge nor wanted to play an indie....I may have to make an exception

incendy351591d ago

Not an indie :P. Microsoft is publishing. But I agree about it looking good, it looks amazing!

Lawboy21591d ago

Thanks I really didn't know that...makes me more interested...I may check it out...

gamerfan09091591d ago

To be honest with you I hope Microsoft invests in a Shadowcomplex 2. I like these type of games, but I love games like Shadow complex, Hotline Mimai, and Gucamelee.

LAWSON721591d ago (Edited 1591d ago )

I prefer the arcade indies over the artsy indies, so I hope so too, I would love to see a Castle Crashers 2 and Shadow Complex 2

gamerfan09091591d ago

Yeah when Shadow Complex dropped on 360 I was blown away. You don't see those type of games any more.

I got a Ghibli vibe from this too. Spirited Away blended with My Neighbor Totoro but also has it's own unique look.
