I don't even know what people mean by 'linear' game. Are they talking about a linear story, one that cannot be influenced? Or are they talking about linear game mechanics i.e. on-rail games. Or do they mean linear in that you have a singular path through the game, i.e. corridor shooters.

Basically it's people blowing smoke where there is no fire. Some of the best games out there are 'linear'. Heck The Last of Us is a 'linear' game, but it's one of the best games ever made. Heck even QTE's don't mean a game is bad. God of War III is one of the best action games out there and it is a phenomenal game... with QTE's.

Don't buy into the hype of the naysayers, The Order 1886 will be a great game. Ready At Dawn will make sure of that.

Whether the game is open world or linear has nothing to do with the quality of the gameplay. Some of the best games i've played i've played are linear. I compare this nonsense to fools who keep harping and whining about graphics and multiplayer as if a pretty game with no depth is worth playing as long as it has multiplayer. The casual gamers need to shut the hell up and pay attention to the people who have been gaming on consoles for 10, 20, or even 30+ years. There is no doubt in my mind that they, along with a new generation of younger console gamers, are all feeding into this nonsense about resolution, multiplayer, graphics, and open world gameplay making a better game. Gameplay is much more than reflections, lighting, and open world maps, but some people will never understand why.
