Hands-On Impressions: Destiny

Tony Polanco writes "At first I decided to stick close to my team. I’ve never played this game and I’m not very good at first-person shooters so I felt it was best to not wander too far. As we went to a flag, I messed around with all of the buttons to get a feel for them. For the most part, Destiny controls like a modern day shooter. The standard configuration for running, reloading, aiming and shooting will feel familiar to those who regularly play these games."

The game looks great....I can't wait until September.
I just hope it lives up to my expectations.

I think this game will live or die on the social community involved with it - in order to get the most from it; enjoy it with friends who are enthusiastic about it.

Halo was always at its most fun making memories with good friends who had a passion for the universe - get yourself involved with the right people with the right attitudes and this game can be a milestone of greatness on ps4 and xbox one

Budobear3396d ago

I think you are right, its one of the reasons I'm looking forward to it, most of the guys I game with are getting it, so getting big groups of us together should be easy.
Our group is already set up on the Bungie site too.

Last night I was watching the gameplay video posted by giantbomb, its over an hour but it doesn't really have any spoilers, they are just running around leveling up a bit. Really liked what I saw.

Shadonic3396d ago

The stream from the MLG Halo player Ninja was really hype, up to 4k people for hours on end and having dance parties, wish their was more people in the alpha so that it could of been larger though.

Perjoss3396d ago

Nice, so how many people can be running around in the same playing field, or should I say how many other players can appear on your screen at once?

I really need to look up some more info about Destiny.

Shadonic3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Well Deej said they can get upwards to 50 ppl without any problems with public events, I imagine that due to the smaller map size of the area Ninja was in when this happend it could possibly be even more but it all depends on keeping the experience sort of stable unlike in the usual MMO marketplaces where theres upwards to 100-300 ppl in one small area.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter121d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell121d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig121d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast121d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g121d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka121d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

Reddrover21u121d ago

It's really just another sign that people who spend their time talking about or complaining about games on the internet are a very, very, small, minority of actual gamers.

People wonder why Sony is trying to bring some multiplayer games under their umbrella? Because done well, those games make money hand over hand.

Gamers love to say vote with your wallet and the masses have voted saying their okay with micro transactions for years now.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai272d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface271d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog
