The Dealspwn chaps deliver their initial verdict on the EA E3 press conference, and it's not particularly positive.
EA didn't lose E3 but their conference wasn't that good in my opinion
Battlefront was the main I was looking forward too! It must be extremely early in development to only show what they did :(
Considering it can possibly only have been in development for little over a year (since EA got the rights just a little over a year ago), then yeah, of course it's extremely early. A trailer would have sufficed but I understand. What I don't understand, though, was the way Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge were treated.
The Criterion piece was pretty nice. And I am hyped for the return of Star Wars Battlefront.
It started off promising, but the rest of the show just rollercoastered downhill. The most anticipated games were all shown in documentaries, and concept footage, which was the real killer when mixed with the heavy focus of EA Sports games, bad/cheesy speakers, and worst of all the Sims -_-. Their conference was a "D" IMO.
Full of spots shit in my opinion They need to separate EA Sports from the conference, it takes up way too much time. I mean do Madden, FIFA, NHL etc really need a massive presence when we know they come out every year
Ubisoft and Sony take the Cake for me! FC4 and Rainbow 6 look amazing, and sony e3 was great!!!
Ea conference was pretty poor imo. They basically said 'everything cool we're doing is ages away, here is some sports"
It was SH*T. Sports was all over, and that screaming lady was so annoying, it was painful to watch. Oh and I so want to forget that Sim presentation...
Everything was a concept. "Hey here is Battlefront 3, but you aint getting that you are getting cinematic Fifer and Sims 4"
when they were talking about racing i thought a new Burnout or tease a new NFS ... but that was shot down :(
LOL, not many games this year it seems.
lol, EA conference was pretty weak: start to finish.. that battlefield hardline, look good. idc if it was staged either..
Pffft I am downloading a game I never expected to be playing anytime soon and got a look into whats to come in the future for bf3 me3 and others I prefer this transparency rather than being secretive and having surprises spoiled by leaks! Ea won me over again damn them....
Fifa & NHL, I'm happy to get my two favourite sports fixes.
Pretty pathetic article too say EA lost E3.
oh my god with this already we cant enjoy gaming for just 3 days?!?! already people are winning and loosing its the first few hours for christ sake
...but EA did lose their show was boring with dev diaries, sport games (nothing wring with that but still...), and annualized games. It was crap that about put me to sleep. The only new interesting thing that I recall was that Criterion game
Battlefield beta not cool enough playing a game thats at boothes at e3 I hope this is a huge step forward where us viewers at home can get the chance to join in! Dev diarys keep rumours and leaks in check somewhat!
Lose? how do you win? whats the prize? It wasnt that great but already theres news that it "lost"? Give me a break.
That was a damn snorefest lol.
EA,Ubisoft and other none console/PC makers are only for show, cant lose imo, only Microsoft, Nintendo, PC or Sony can lose E3.
how does "PC" lose E3 LOL where is the "PC" conference? this comment made me giggle
Well said, PC wins every year but never has a conference.
PC can never lose E3 as the conference don't exist. It could only win because every third party game announced, it will have the best version.
I'm interested in Sims 4, unfortunately it seems they are making it way more arcadey than past versions. As for the entire presentation... I didn't expect much.. They usually always do sports games almost exclusively... And since the effort they put into revolutionizing the sports game franchises is near nothing... I just have to facepalm.. I wonder what they would look like if Phil Spencer has taken over 2 years back. Not to say he's the best for the job, but at the present moment, I believe anyone can run EA better if they focused on the games rather than the money.
Oh yeah, a 3rd party publisher/developer with gazzilion games and money just lost e3... You people take that winning /loosing crap too serious..
Wow, not too many games here that I will feel bad for boycotting!
UMmmm, thats what happens when things get leaked..... But we knew everything that was coming from EA (well not BATTLEFIELD THE SHOW "COPS" VERSION)
EA barely showed up.
What? They showed early Battlefront, and it looked amazing. They showed a still underwhelming Madden, but at least they highlighted the differences with the defense, which alone are a nice addition, too bad they didn't have a bunch of other changes though. They showed Battlefield Hardline, and it looks amazing. They showed off DA: Inquisition. A game that could be great, also out this year. Oh and announced the beta of BF:Hardline is right now, as in I'm downloading it right now. How is showing some incredible Battlefront, the usual sports stuff, DA: Inquisition, and Hardline...with a beta RIGHT NOW a bad showing? Did we get a Halo beta today? While I haven't seen Sony's or Ubisoft's or Nintendo's show, no one else gave us a beta demo. Maybe you don't like some or all of these game, that's absolutely fine. But when you offer a beta, right now, for a highly anticipated game, you can't have lost at E3. They literally gave us more then anyone else did so far. How is that a loss?
Was horrible showing.
I had my fingers crossed the whole conference for a next gen skate reboot.
Pretty much every note worthy game was a behind the scenes (too early to show fully) trailer... I love the fact that we are getting a new ME, Battlefront and mirrors edge but man nothing they showed helped me out at all lol.
I never think of EA or Ubisoft or someone like that winning or losing E3 for some reason.
Maybe not lose due to their volume of high-selling games, but it was boring. I don't play FPS or sports games, and neither does my wife or daughter. Dragon Age looks good, but we knew that already and I've already preordered it. My wife and daughter like the Sims and enjoyed that, but I do not like the Sims (and neither do many people on here), so I can see that being a major eye-roller. Needed more flair buttons imo.
When all your studios are pumping out the annuals, of course you will have nothing to show at E3. Yet another reason why annual titles kill hype and excitement... And that BF Hardline demo....wow that was boring. Like a reskinned BF4...
There's nothing to win at E3. It's just a conference. Companies "win" when they make a lot of money off sales.
Actually I loved their conference. Only half of it since Sports really isn't my cup of tea but they showed actual developers talking about their games they showed the nitty gritty. the beginning of something. They didn't show prerendered bs. They showed concept art, animations all kinds of cool game dev stuff. Why is that a problem? Not enough pretty trailers? Why would you want a trailer for a game that may not be coming out for another year or two? Not making that trailer and giving false hope to people means they can spend time developing the actual game instead of a prebaked test of the game. They showed games VERY early on and I thought it was great it was like a look behind the curtain. They claimed repeatedly Mass Effect would not be at E3 and they showed what little they had. You get a Hardline beta RIGHT NOW. If you were lucky enough (I wasn't.) Don't get me wrong I am still quite sore towards EA but they do appear to be making strides in the right direction.
