Killer Instinct is a fighting game developed by Rare, Midway and Nintendo. Initially released in arcades in 1994, and rumored to use an "Ultra 64" hardware engine, in reality the proprietary arcade hardware was co-developed by Rare and Midway. The game received a high profile launch on the Super Nintendo, as well as on the Game Boy. It led to a sequel, Killer Instinct 2.
The game borrows the attack set of Street Fighter and is also inspired by the finishing moves from Mortal Kombat. Killer Instinct was a great addition the the fighting game genre. It featured a really creative auto-combo system as well as some of the best graphics of it's time period. Killer Instinct truly stands out as one of Rare's legenday franchises.
Fast forward over a decade later and rumors have been surfacing that a new Killer Instinct is indeed in the the works over at Microsoft games studios. The rumors stem from various sources: EGM's quartermann, a Christmas card sent by Rare with a KI3 stocking on it and many more. With all the rumors floating around it looks as if Xbox 360 gamers may be receiving a real gem of a fighting game sometime in the future.
EB: Earlier today Microsoft announced Killer Instinct 3, which is due to hit the Xbox One during March of 2016, and it’ll contain eight new fighters. One of the new fighters is Rash from the iconic Battletoads series, and you can now see him in action thanks to a batch of new Killer Instinct 3 screens, which you can check out below.
I think By adding Rash was a breath of fresh air for the series...looking forward to KI 3rd season.
Killer Instinct: Season Three will launch for both Xbox One and PC in March 2016, Microsoft announced at Gamescom.
Need a new Battletoads game... STAT!
I hope Rare is quietly toiling away at a new one right now.
As a huge KI fan, my jaw dropped. New character, Rash, available today free. Great to hear Season 3 is a thing.
The final boss of Killer Instinct Season 2, Aria, has finally received a gameplay video, and she is without a question one of the most interesting and best-animated characters in the Xbox One-exclusive fighting game. We finally get to see her fight.
This game, this game
Such a good product and the variety of fighters is awesome
+1
lol...DC vs Mortal Kombat
All Rare has to do is make the game similar to the old ones. It's not that hard. The first one(arcade version) was the best in my opinion.
only wish they could get a great fighter like this. But they're to busy waiting beyond for Tequeen 6 and Metal Queer Solid 4 where the pirate runs around in the thong.
PRAY BEYOND
.....
I forgot about this game til I saw the picture and in a 12 year old glee it all came back to me "holy sh*t I LOVED this game!!" Rare, make it and make it now!! Wow I completely forgot how much I used to love this game.
