With Halo creator Bungie newly independent, Gamasutra sits down with staffers Brian Jarrard, Mike Zak and Chris Butcher to discuss the creation of Halo 3 and the company's attitude going forward.
Not every Halo game has been a banger, but the franchise still has a raft of the greatest games of all time.
Infinite is a dumpster fire and as much as I like ODST, in no universe it ranks above Halo 2. This list is trash.
Best to worst: Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 4, Halo ODST, Halo Infinite, Halo 5.
The Xbox 360 was a fantastic console in its day with some truly classic titles, but what are the seven best games for the console?
I'll go with,
Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Culdcept Saga, Shadow Complex, Ace Combat 6 with the flight stick,A Kingdom for Keflings, A World of Keflings.
Bonus Kinect Games: Happy Action Theater and Sesame Street.
*Skyrim was so bad on PS3 that it almost deserves to be #1*
Was this made by a.i.? No human being would put Shadowrun, Fable III, and Splinter Cell: Conviction into a list of the 7 best Xbox 360 games.
Would love to play Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but Xbox decided to buy exclusivity and keep it off a competing platform.
The only mainline game I never played except for one level at a friends place. Game sold less than any other in the series if I remember correctly.
When the current gen XBOX offering is so lacking people need to refer to games released two generations back....
The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.
Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.
The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.
I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces
How do you feel about HALO3?
I'll tell you like it is, Halo 2 & 3 were and still are overrated.
I was stunned when I started playing Halo Combat Evolved, the graphics were amazing, the gameplay was solid & the plot twist was great all in all it was an amazing game. Then came halo 2, the combat was still the same, which was great plus the graphics were mind blowing. Looked even on par with Perfect Dark Zero at some points. I wasn't too disappointed after playing halo2. Then came halo 3, a game i had high hopes for. Played it, the combat was same as was six years ago. The graphics jump from Halo 2 to Halo 3 was no where near as big as the jump from Halo 1 to Halo 2. But who cares graphics aren't anything. The brutes AI was pretty good. The game's character models looked pretty rough. But half way through the game went from good to boring. The game would have been great 3 years ago, but now it was just another FPS, but was hyped like it was end all game. I was quite underwhelmed after playing the campaign.
Halo 3 was very fun. It was also very Overated.
I must admit I was swept along with the hype. i bought soem mountain dew, i bought the heroic dog tag & I went to the launch of Halo 3 in New york City! I still got my I AM MASTERCHEIF T-Shirt!
When I went home to play the game at 2:00 A.M.
I bought the excuse: "Art Direction". But gameplay wise its the same & its still fun. Until the excitement starts to wear off.
My only problem with the game was the graphics & how the gameplay never changed even though we have been playing the same halo games for years. Most importanly the sound was very bad on halo 3! Everything was muffled & Bunjie never included any new sound effects for Guns or jumping. I just thought the game would sound more mechanical. Like robocop mixed with some terminator 2 & a little bit of star wars but I was wrong.
halo 3 in all its years in development was just a expansion pack for Halo 2 with instant replay and a map editor. Whats worst is that Finishing the fight meant having small squad battles instead of a all out epic war like the commercials hinted at.
The biggest battle was 2 scarabs and that was it!
I still enjoyed it on saturday mornings though. Halo 3 is a classic but should have came out with the xbox 360 at launch!
Its a game that can be sacrificed for bigger & better games. I'll always remember Halo but I will never miss it. Bungie needs to multi platform there games because Halo 3 just wasnt worth the hassles & limitations with the xbox 360.
Dissagree with me if you want, Im just stating the facts that make Halo 3 - GAME OVER!
Halo 1 campaign is the best so far, Halo 2 has the best multiplayer maps but the game was glitchy as hell.
Halo 3 has a good campaign but the storyline could have been better, the weapon balance is good in some instances but alot of the maps are terrible and not balanced enough.
Halo 2 could have had the best campaign but they cut out the E3 2003 Earth City mission.
