The turn-based combat system remains, but instead of popup windows of minigames, you'll press buttons in conjunction with the attacks as they happen. Get the timing right and you can roll them into combos and gain more strength for your character. Combat also gets more interesting because you are encouraged to use more battle stamps (some of which last multiple battles), which work on cooldown timers. Similarly, party members' health carries over between fights, with fountains in the overworld available to regenerate health.
