Comcast Hijackers Say They Warned the Company First - Wired

The computer attackers who took down Comcast's homepage and webmail service for more than five hours Thursday say they didn't know what they were getting themselves into.

In an hour-long telephone conference call with Threat Level, the hackers known as "Defiant" and "EBK" expressed astonishment over the attention their DNS hijacking has garnered. In the call, the pair bounded freely between jubilant excitement over the impact of their attack, and fatalism that they would soon be arrested for it.

"The situation has kind of blown up here, a lot bigger than I thought it would," says Defiant, a 19-year-old man whose first name is James. "I wish I was a minor right now because this is going to be really bad."

The two hackers are members of the underground group Kryogeniks...

Wow, these guys are real winners.

High School Dropouts (and seemingly proud and unashamed of it) that go around using the reasoning skills of a dead cat to justify making someone's life a living hell for a few hours. These are the kinds of kids that have no business having that kind of knowledge or computer skill, because plainly, they're too stupid AND smart for their own good.

I've heard that line before. It was uttered repeatedly by the potheads, the artsy-fartsy drama kids, beatniks, "Rage Against the Machine" fans, and generally people who had no idea what they're talking about half the time back when I was in High School. These kids are wastes of space who will become nothing more than a quick pain in the ass for a few thousand people before they go to a Minimum Security frat house where all the other stupid kids are gonna pass them around like currency.

Look, I hate comcast as much as the next hippie, but if you think becoming an astronomical internet-wide pain in the ass is gonna make you famous, you got another thing coming, and it's gonna be a 3-year stint where when you get out, you'll be court-ordered to never own a computer or have access to an internet connection for the next 20 years, and you'll work at *insert copyrighted fast food franchise here*, where you'll get old and try in futility to hit on high school girls that have probably been with guys older than you as it is.

I grew up in northern IL, people around here are so damn fake it's not even funny, and yes, it's also a living, breathing stereotype of a region.

It's not like I intend to offend people (and if I did, I apologize). The Generalization in this is mainly for the purpose of space, given that this is a comment forum, I'd like to keep my posts under 5000 words so I don't have to micro-manage what I write.

These are merely observations I had when growing up, watching a bunch of directionless kids preach about "fighting the man", and then doing nothing about it but forming garage bands and buying pot, I just think it's kinda unproductive pertaining to their cause. All talk and no action was always the main thing that got to me.

Fender, the waste of space part was for the two hacker kids, sorry for the mix up.

I actually like the arts and such, but my experiences with the people who are generally involved in them were mainly pretentious @ssholes who thought their sh!t didn't stink, and thought I was somehow inferior for my moderate interest and knowledge.

Comcast needs to make examples of this hackers and send them away for a long time. I feel for the IT staff who had to clean up the mess.

Big company my @ss! I do hate to be the one telling the kid this, but the world is not perfect, deal with it. All this just sound like the people I had to listen in my work about saving the nature and all (I'm biologist)... Blaming big companies and coming with catastrophic theories as how we'll destroy the world. When in fact the biggies isn't the problem, is each little company and individual that are far more numerous, and we ain't destroying nothing... We don't have to care about nature, nature can take care of itself. Don't matter how much we destroy or modify the nature, species that will end, nature will replace. We have to preserve so we can live here with some quality. And that idea of not touching nature? What will you eat then?

The same goes in this case. People blame big companies. But we usually need their products, their jobs and money, not to say to move the system (which isn't perfect, you don't have to like, but you need to learn how to live with it, before changing it).

They really did no harm to Comcast's website they just transfered the site around a little and rerouting it in circles for a few hours nothing special. They also unveiled a hole in their site security now that has been exposed it will likely be patched up.

just practice ethically, practice on your own equipment, or your freinds, make sure they know first!

Being able to hack ethically is brilliant, just dont be a frigging retard and try take down some big company; unless your employed to by said company!

And this has nothing to do with them smoking pot, or being a "hippie" or into "rage against the machine" its just their stupidity, and lack of judgement.
