That looks fantastic. Can't think of a single "vanilla" open world game that looks that good unless your willing to look past everything going on in this game, that is missing from many others.
That looks awesome, never seen that before in a game. The next advancement after that would be to add moving objects, such as people walking around (Star Trek TNG), or a random couple making out.
I've been playing it for the past 2 days. If you enjoy Splinter Cell and GTA...you will most definitely like this, because this is like those two games mixed together.
I noticed this in the gameplay videos I watched and I am shocked that it is just now getting noticed. I'm wondering what they could have done if this was never implemented. Would if free up some room to add more physics to vehicles and objects, or increase pedestrian density? Because I would prefer physics and density over interior simulation to be honest.
He knows. You're talking about the same effect. That is what is so clever about it. They have mapped the illusion of interiors onto a layer of the reflections. This way, you perceive 3d indoor spaces (expensive, resource-wise) but in fact they are only using clever 2d imagery (cheap resource-wise).
At least we can have open worlds with this level of detail which was not possible on last gen consoles. Always hated when art didn't match interior vs exterior (i.e. perfectly fine doors that should open but don't or balconies/rooftops/landings that are reachable but are not really there because it is just hand drawn) or even better glass that should be breakable but isn't. I'm not expect perfection but at least a major leap.
I don't even have to have much of a visual jump from last gen, just give me more smoother/consistent frame rate, better physics, more populated NPCs when there should be many, more objects that interact with the environment realistically (no more impenetrable wood or other objects that should be breakable but aren't), more open world vs linear/rails. I just want virtual world that seems more alive makes more sense. Of course great story writing is important but that isn't bound by technology (or video games for that matter). Of course a great story is important; we gamers just happen to like great stories that are more visual than a book and more interactive that a movie/tv.
I'll always hated that I could bust through what appears to be heavy wooden box, crate, barrel, door, or whatever but objects that appear less well made or at least equal in durability I couldn't break or interact with but they are right there; takes away from the immersiveness of the world - fantasy or realism.
It's not the visual quality that really bugs me (but appreciated still) it's the liveliness of the world and the balance of interaction with that world I want. I'm happy we console gamers are getting to see this in the new current consoles.... but of course there is always room for improvement.
Even in a fantasy unrealistic world I still expect my physics and interaction with the world to be more balanced and more interactive.
I cringe at 4k coming up as I have a feeling gamers and people are going to fall into its trap but I don't think technology is going to jump up fast enough and drop down in price cheap enough to allow 4k gaming with more interactive open worlds. I'd stay 1080p next gen if it meant consistent 60/60+ fps with more/better physics/interactive open world environments.
Be happy a game like watch dogs exist at the level of detail possible, and from the sound of it, many more open world games like it to come this new generation of consoles.
I have had this game for about a week now and for an open world game it look's excellent and as for comparison's between this and GTA, Watch dog's look's at least 3 time's better.
You're 100% correct, but we still have some clueless people saying GTA5 looks better. It just makes me shake my head how biased and ignorant some people can be.
I've had Watch Dogs since Saturday (thank you gamestop) and can tell you that it looks stunning and is an excellent game. Whilst the graphics don't compete with Infamous in some aspects, there's a lot more going on and everything seems a lot more lively. Car explosions etc. are much better than Infamous. I have no idea why people are even attempting to say GTA V looks as gd on ps3. Sure if you get the right screenshot of GTA it looks pretty nifty, but in motion you see textures, lighting and more do not compare. Have you seen how many jagged edges you get with a sniper scope on GTA V?
I've been playing watchdogs for last 2 days now on ps4. and i regret to say that i ve wasted my time here on n4g by reading and watching all those footages and comparisons. it doesnot do justice . Game looks Great and in night with rain it looks stunning. But graphics are one thing gameplay is amazing and story so far is brilliant.
Those of you who are worried about graphics PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON INTERNET WATCHING VIDEOS OF THE GAMEPLAY BECAUSE REAL THING ON UR TV IS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
Matrix Online. 2005. ALL the buildings in the city has interiors and could be entered. 9 years ago people. I'm not saying this to disparage Watch Dogs, I think it looks like a great game, but lets stop treating the old like it's new.
That is a really nice detail.
That looks fantastic. Can't think of a single "vanilla" open world game that looks that good unless your willing to look past everything going on in this game, that is missing from many others.
edit: added in "vanilla"
one word... impressive... seriously
