Sony is winning the hype/PR side of things but.....

Xbox One is winning the exclusives battle

GarrusVakarian3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

Are you really trying to downplay the PS4's success by saying it's only doing so well because of hype/PR? Really? Talk about sore losers. Does it ever occur to you that the PS4 is doing better because people simply prefer what's on offer on the PS4? Does that thought even enter your mind?

Hype makes people buy something at launch. The PS4 is still going strong 6 months after launch....kinda too to be pulling the hype card, dontcha think?

Sorry man, but approximately 8 million people disagree with you. And besides, if your logic about hype selling consoles is true....then why didn't the X1 win the March NPD, seeing as Titanfall was bundled for free and was hyped to the high heavens?

Food for thought.

Emanno3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

PS4 is winning. I even prefer the Wii U over X1.

DigitalRaptor3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

Nope, Sony is winning the gamers, and establishing them as a better global gaming brand. Business as usual.

Like I've said a thousand times before, even if you believe XB1 is winning the exclusives, Microsoft didn't support the 360 very well at all in the latter years, outside of games for the casual audience of an established gimmick, so they've had time to build up and catch up on a first-party presence.

PS3's last year alone was tremendous in terms of exclusive content, and put the 360 to absolute shame. If you want an answer as to why Xbone "might" be winning an exclusives battle, that would be a good one. However, even with them releasing a ton of games for PS3, Vita and PS4 combined, the fact that PS4 has more first-party stuff going for it than the Xbone, says a lot about the difference between the two platform holders.

Having said that, Microsoft have only released one more AAA game than Sony has this gen, and Sony has released 4x as many AAA first-party games than Microsoft has.

You can't use the "games" in general argument, so you'll try and claim the exclusives. But it's gonna be a close one even after E3. PS4 still has more games and more diversity and quite frankly, always will. So nice try downplaying PS4's success in games and in sales, and mind share of course.

Additionally, it's well past launch, and the kind of hype you are referring to is really only a factor at launch, like Lukas said. Even a massive, massive Titanfall push couldn't shift the XB1 past PS4 in a single month. Talking about sales for a moment: if XB1 doesn't catch up to the PS4 by the end of this year, it's going to be an even harder uphill climb for them. Especially when you consider a PS3 with its terrible PR, surrounding negativity and supposedly having "no games" caught up an 8 million unit lead on the 360 last gen.

I don't know why people believe the gap could possibly be shrinking.

Eonjay3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

PS4 is winning period. It's winning the sales war by about 1 million over the Wii U and over 3 million when compared to the Xbox One. Lets not ignore reality.

Wii U has most exclusives.
PS4 has the most sales
Xbox One has you.

Ratty3621d ago

The exclusives battle? Please.

-Foxtrot3621d ago

"Xbox One is winning the exclusives battle"

Want to know why Sony isn't rushing out exclusives because they don't see the point. They'll take their time and support the PS4 like they did with the PS3.

Microsoft are scrambling around with games and exclusives because of the shit storm which happened last year. They wouldn't of bothered if the Xbox One was a huge success and was crushing the PS4 in sales.

KakashiHotake3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

Umm what exclusives? Other than Titan Fall and maybe Dead Rising for some, they don't have too many games worth mentioning.

reaperofsouls3621d ago

@ lifeisgameok

M$ are the masters of hype look at titanfall the codkiller, the game to end all games , the game that'll change the way we play games, the system seller, the game that everyone will buy an xbone for..... er no .... fail...

Malphite3621d ago

According to Wikipedia:

This includes all games released and announced.

PS4:
Exclusive = 28
Sony Exclusive = 19
Console exclusive and/or timed = 70/1
Multiplatform = 129
Playable = 76 available to purchase (10 of these are exclusive to PS4)

Xbox One:
Exclusive = 17
Microsoft exclusive = 9
Console exclusive or timed = 11/3
Multiplatform = 128
Playable = 42 available to purchase (9 of these are exclusive to Xbox One)

spacedelete3621d ago

what Xbox exclusives ? Xbox has never had good exclusives. Titanfall isn't exclusive its on PC and 360 and by E3 it will be coming to PS3 and PS4 anyway. Ryse is the best looking next gen game easily but the game is average.

are you Xbone owners so blinded by desperation that your lying to yourselves to justify that overpriced paperweight you bought ? Xbone was more expensive, massive console and still isn't as powerful as PS4. you Xbone owners are pathetic.

KinjoTakemura3621d ago

Actually, Xbox One only has 10 console exclusives and the PS4 has 9.

Average Meta critic score for PS4 exclusives 75.7

Average Meta critic score for Xbox one exclusives

64.7

Churning out mediocre games doesn't give you an advantage, in fact, i'd say Microsoft is giving customers more reasons to avoid buying an Xbox One.

More doesn't always mean better.

goldwyncq3621d ago

Don't you think it's a bit too premature for that conclusion to be made?

No_Limit3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

I don't quite agree with lifeisgamesok but I find it kind of funny that he is just stating his own opinion to a platform that he likes and he has like one bubble while a known PS supporter like Newmonday will say the same thing about his system of choice and will have like 10 bubbles. Both are just opinion based and there are no right or wrong answer. The bubble system is flawed beyond beliefs.

Regardless, I don't care who is winning as competition is good for us all and I am glad I have all three consoles to play great games. A far as I'm concern, all three have amazing games coming and I don't want to miss anyone of them.

Sales and who receive the first place ribbon is only for the armchair fanboys.Peach Out.

MysticStrummer3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

@No_Limit - "I find it kind of funny that he is just stating his own opinion to a platform that he likes and he has like one bubble while a known PS supporter like Newmonday will say the same thing about his system of choice and will have like 10 bubbles."

If their bubble totals were entirely based on that one differing opinion you might have a point, but that's not how it works. Read their comments over a week or a month, then come back and honestly tell us you don't see a clear difference in both what they say and how they say it. There are XBox fans here who have a lot of bubbles and there are PS fans here with one.

Magicite3621d ago

blindest fanboi of the year confirmed.

URNightmare3621d ago

Too bad there's a huge unhappy fanbase since there is no Dragon Ball game on Xbox One, no MotoGP on Xbox One, no Baseball on Xbox One. Ouch!

Silly gameAr3621d ago

That's pretty funny lifeisgames. All I see is hype/PR for MS going into E3, and that's enough for xbox owners to claim some kind of victory for the X1 and MS, and an early grave for the PS4 and you guys haven't even seen what they have to offer yet.

JMyers3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

How are they winning the exclusives battle?

Sony has more games announced and more studios making games.

Oh wait you means the one MS pays for?

meganick3621d ago

I would argue that Wii U has the best exclusives at the moment.

Provolone243621d ago

People still think Xbox has more quality exclusives to pick from?

Seriously?

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

jessupj3621d ago

When is this dead horse going to get some rest?

Why do you keep perpetuating this stupid idea that the xbone has vastly more games and that it's winning in the game department when the PS4 has...

More games

More diversity in it's lineup

Higher rated games on average.

All those 3 things are facts. They are not debatable. So why do you keep spouting this nonsense that the xbone is winning is games when the complete opposite is true?

Just stop.

rainslacker3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

Interesting that you don't talk about why Sony is hyped right now, and why it's PR is so much better than MicroSoft's. Guess it's just a random event in your mind.

Last I checked, Sony has more exclusives released or announced for their system as MS does, so not sure who's winning that battle as it seems subjective.

Hate to say it, but hype doesn't typically increase over time for the console itself, so that means, by your logic, XBox is in for a rough time going forward. Luckily hype for games becomes more of a thing going forward, and MS and Sony have some heavy hitters in that department.

SoulSercher6203621d ago

LMAO What exclusives?

Forza 5? Gran Turismo 6 blows that game out of the water.

Ryse? The game played like Batman Arkham games only more boring with a dumb story to boot.

Dead Rising 3? It's considered the worst one and there are other zombie games that do it better.

Killer Instinct is the ONLY one worth playing.

And no Titanfall is NOT exclusive.

masterfox3620d ago

-Foxtrot3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

It's been on the market longer you know

Anyway it only got it's big exclusive, Super Mario 3D World a year after it came out...A YEAR

The Xbox One and the PS4 had Titanfall and inFAMOUS SS in 4 months after the consoles released.

Majin-vegeta3621d ago

Yea that's why the Wii u is killing it in sales....

KinjoTakemura3621d ago (Edited 3621d ago )

The Wii U has been on the market since 2012 and the Ps4 has sold about 1 million more units than the Wii U.

XiSasukeUchiha3621d ago

This is the first and last time I will get a console at launch, hype didnt fit wht was delivered still use ps3 wii u more then the ps4. If I was to chose a console now id go for x1 simply because they seem to be giving wht the gamers want.

madpuppy3620d ago (Edited 3620d ago )

That doesn't make any sense...

"If I was to chose a console now id go for x1 simply because they seem to be giving wht the gamers want."

A statement that explains absolutely nothing..

What do gamers want? A weaker console? unwanted features? why would Welly300 think that gamers want those things? sound more like an stealth agenda than an actual honest opinion.

PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher

With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?

thorstein3d ago

No, and they already solved any need with the overlay that's coming.

Vits3d ago

Unless they are trying to kill their recently created PC business, I would advise against opening a dedicated PC store. It's an extremely hard endeavor, and people, in general, are very comfortable with Steam. Even Epic, with their billions of dollars invested, is still struggling to find a foothold, and they have Fortnite.

just_looken2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Money is one thing security is another but again millions have 0 knowledge past 2020.

Epic store for years struggled with a shopping cart/account theft/credit card theft

Rockstar launcher/store to this day over 5 years later still has horrific user interface security flaws lost account's and stolen CC

Then you got that activision need phone number oh we lost it launcher

The crown jewel is the ea launcher/store ea app 3 yrs old still has hundreds of threads were people lost games/accounts/game access or just straight up crashes.

Edit" Oh ubi launcher were you buy a game that may or may not be there again or work and the launcher 5yrs old still has no 4K support if you launch it on a 4k screen there is a high chance it will just crash.

ocelot072d ago

Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming.

It's just a known fact. The PC gaming community prefer Steam and Steam alone. They don't like different launchers. I personally don't mind them. But majority just stick with steam. Hence why EA and Ubisoft went back to on releasing on steam and why Microsoft release games on steam as people hated buying from the windows store.

The only other launchers that I imagine are doing ok is GOG due to being drm free and epic games due to the free games every week. Sony shouldn't release any sort of pc launcher n

Nitrowolf22d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It literally says in the OP that PC gamers don't like multiple launchers lol. It even mentions Steam being the go to for gamers

Tacoboto2d ago

Title: "PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher"

N4G: "Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming"

When you don't even read the headline...

ocelot072d ago

I read it and had a brain fart. As read the title then this "With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?"

So I hold my hands up on that mistake. Rest of my comment still stands.

Giblet_Head2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Steam and GOG are highly preferred because of the rich feature set. Ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, Epic etc have all set a precedent over the years for customers to instinctively expect individual publisher launchers to be so extremely half-assed that the majority simply don't want to bother dealing with what is almost an inevitable disappointment by comparison to Steam or GOG. Those publishers and their inaction or general disinterest to improve have effectively ruined any future adoption to be taken seriously.

Einhander19722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This is just another ridiculous double standard article.

It's like how Microsoft can spend 20 years of making nothing but gaas and live service style games to sell microtransactions, dlc and subscriptions and get praise for doing it, but if Sony wants to make a single game like that every website under the sun is writing articles saying how Sony is anti-consumer or whatever.

derek2d ago

Yep, huge double standard look at the tortured reaction to the ps5pro, websites hyperventilating like Sony is forcing people to buy it.

just_looken2d ago

Wait my xbox from 2004 has avengers gaas on it? wow your so smart

m$ Gaas started with the other companies like sony

Gamepass yes they are deep into that but its still a huge money saver sense you do not own your games then get a service like that.

Now there pc xbox launcher that is trash for years now

Well, I mean the driving physics hold up. The draw distance, police AI, visuals in general etc do not

isarai10d ago

Sadly youd be hard pressed to find any driving game with better physics these days. But the draw distance really kills it for me

__y2jb10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Nonsense. The physics in any modern game or any 360 game is light years beyond Driver.

Chocoburger12d ago

I'm not big into sim racing, but I got sucked into the hype for this one from magazines back then. I just played arcade mode and that was enough for me to feel like I got my money's worth.

Yeah, it's definitely worth playing today. GT 2 has a few interesting fan made graphical mods when played on an emulator as well.

PrimeVinister12d ago

The arcade mode is underrated, it's a great alternative mode and you can even unlock GT HiFi with it.

Fonsecap12d ago

Cars back then had much more personality then those we see today. Modern cars all about the led lights and the tablet size screens and they all seem alike, back then they could be simpler in design but had tons more personality.

PrimeVinister12d ago

That is something a few people have pointed out - that cars all look the same now. I have to agree that a lot of new vehicles lack personality.

fsfsxii12d ago

You guys are so anti-fun its depressing, like who tf cares about personality of objects like wtf? Just learn to enjoy stuff as is.

PrimeVinister12d ago

It's hardly anti-fun to remark that some objects look nicer than others.

And everyone has their favourite era of cars, I sincerely doubt many will pick the 2020s a few decades from now.

Fonsecap12d ago

Dude, like wft cares about personality of objects? What about art? Paintings are objects and they're considered good or bad if they show or lack personality so I ask, wtf are you talking about? Cars are also considered pieces of art, vintage cars, classic cars, classic bikes and so on. Artists are appreciated by the objects they craft, blacksmiths, painters, engineers, designers, so wtf cares about personality of objects indeed... ( Sorry for my English, it's not my native language)

MrBaskerville11d ago

Talking about cars is fun if you are a car enthusiast. Just saying.

ApocalypseShadow12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

That Corvette Stingray to this day is one of the most ferocious whips ever driven. Overpowered against other cars yes. But to drive it and be that close to losing control, but being in command around those curves, just can't be duplicated.

HiFi mode is also something I miss. There should be a mode in today's GT where it's Mano o Mano and the detail and resolution jump full throttle. In today's games, Max Ray Tracing and lighting and textures to make it look even more real..

PrimeVinister12d ago

A modern HiFi mode would be really cool! It would be really interesting to see how real they could go by stripping it all way back.

And Stingray is a solid choice 👌

TiredGamer12d ago

HiFi mode in GT1 was only a stripped down 60 fps mode for one track. Should have been called "Performance Mode" or "High Frame Rate" mode.

PrimeVinister12d ago

@TiredGamer it was only three tracks, but it was still cool

Petebloodyonion12d ago

Not according to Former Playstation president Jim Ryan for he told Time that he doesn't see why anyone would play old games given the advancements in fidelity achieved today.
