Wolfenstein: The New Order Sets a New Standard

GamersBliss Writes: "Wolfenstein: The New Order is a deep game, but what I appreciated most about it was that it wasn’t overly involved. It seems most games these days like to throw random RPG elements at every game, skill trees etc. Wolfenstein has found a great balance."

It looked interesting but I have been weary of sequels this year

Link2DaFutcha4046d ago

Yeah, I was pretty apprehensive going in, but I was pretty blown away after playing it. Everything I've wanted in a fun shooter for a while, but the fact that it's single-player only is a bit of a drawback, probably won't shell out 60$ for it. Though with the different options, difficulties, and styles of play, might get a few runs out of it.

I cant stand Nazi related games.

morganfell4045d ago (Edited 4045d ago )

I am concerned because from gameplay videos the AI looks like it is dumber than a bag of hammers.

Looks fun, but the AI is shocking.

Link2DaFutcha4046d ago

I saw that article too, and I don't know if that was a super easy difficulty or what, but the version I played had much better AI, they responded quicker and didn't just stand there taking bullets.

ThatEnglishDude4046d ago

I don't know dude, I've seen quite a bit of footage of this game, and it looks abysmal. Glad you enjoyed it though!

Link2DaFutcha4046d ago

What I played looked nothing like most of the videos I've seen from leaked footage.

Muffins12234045d ago

Did you download a patch for it or was it the Valhalla version on higher difficulty? Please reply

CocoWolfie4045d ago

yeah, hopefully thats not the release version because it still doesnt come out for 3 days and theres a day one patch i read so.. hopefully

Link2DaFutcha4045d ago

No idea, played a demo at Pax and did it on second to highest difficulty, enemies were tricky and responsive.

CocoWolfie4045d ago

I heard its from some of the people who worked at starbreeze. If you never played the darkness or chronicles or riddick, theyre fantastic :p so its good to know its.. what i hoped

Link2DaFutcha4045d ago

The health system is definitely Riddick-ish. Individual blocks regen, but once its gone, you need to get a pack for it. Great game, can't wait for it to come out.

SolidDuck4045d ago

Starbreeze people made this? Hmm, I thought there games were underated. That's good to hear.

DefenderOfDoom24045d ago

Yes, the lead developers from STARBREEZE are now part of the development team MACHINE GAMES . They also developed SYNDICATE too, which i thought was the most overlooked FPS from 7th gen ! It has a great co-op and JEFF GERTZMANN from GIANT BOMB said it was his favorite game from 2012 ! I can not wait till i pick WOLFENSTEIN NO this Tuesday!!!

Link2DaFutcha4045d ago

Yeah, I've always been a huge fan of their games, mostly because they aren't afraid to think outside the box, it may not always be smooth, but its never boring and always interesting.

Berenwulf4045d ago

Does anyone know when the embargo for the reviews is being lifted?

GuruMeditation4045d ago

Afaik from other articles, the embargo lifts on release day

Perjoss4045d ago

This is a bit worrying. If they know they have a good game that will likely be getting 7 or 8+ scores surely they would want the embargo lifted a few days earlier to ramp up pre orders and get that word of mouth and hype train going?

SixtyNine4045d ago

It looks like it'll be one of those really good games that are underrated because they aren't backed by the media.

Most gamers only play highly rated, award winning and critically acclaimed titles.

This GEN I want to discover hidden gems. The Darkness was one last gen. Hopefully The New Order is as fun as it looks.

DefenderOfDoom24045d ago (Edited 4045d ago )

to sixtynine . yeah i picked the DARKNESS like a year after it came out , not expecting much . Then i played it , and was pretty amazed how much fun i had playing the THE DARKNESS! Did not play sequel because a different development team made the DARKNESS sequel . But then i found out STARBREEZE made SYNDICATE and bought that and STARBREEZE made me very happy again!!!

Oldman1004045d ago

Singularity is another one of those gems. Raven needs to stop screwing around with COD and get cracking on a sequel already.

Belasco4045d ago

Another one that I really liked that was overlooked was Dark Sector.

LemyAtom4044d ago

I had a blast with Dark Sector. It may have been a mix and match rehash, but playing with that blade and slicing everything was ace. The promo videos they did where they were breaking fruit to sound like breaking bones were also funny.

Wolfenstein: The New Order Is The Last Of Its Kind

Wolfenstein: The New Order turns ten years old today, so we decided to play it again and discovered just how much of an extinct kind of game it is.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.

Wolfenstein: The New Order - A Highly Rated FPS That Hasn't Stood the Test of Time

Wolfenstein: The New Order launched 10 years ago today, but can it stand up to the modern FPS titles it inspired?

Seth_hun388d ago

I disagree. Its still a fantastic game, with very good gunplay and a surprisingly loveable cast of characters and a good story trough many different and interesting setpieces

hiawa23388d ago (Edited 388d ago )

All The New Order needs for my tastes is a this gen enhancement patch.

ChasterMies388d ago

I played New Order a couple of years after launch and I give it an 8/10. The shooter holds up because it is focused on being a good shooter. There is no crafting, no RPG elements, no open world find the question mark Weapons are fun. Enemies are fun. Levels offer a nice mix of stealth and shooting. You get to be the predator; this isn’t a game about fending off waves of enemies while a robot companion unlocks a door. Most importantly, New Order is the last of a dying breed of single player shooters.

Skuletor388d ago

Singleplayer shooters are still getting released every year, just look up "boomer shooters" and you'll find an an abundance of them. AAA fps campaigns, not so much.

Last year had Trepang2, RoboCop: Rogue City, Turbo Overkill, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Dread Templar, Sprawl and more

DustMan387d ago

The games you mentioned are not from AAA developers. Wolfenstein likely had a budget that was probably as big as all those games you mentioned combined. I'm not knocking the new wave of retro shooters. I absolutely love them (I think some get much higher review scores than they deserve though). I just really wouldn't describe Wolfenstein as purely a boomer shooter based on the relatively cohesive story, with cut scenes and is fully voice acted. Full set piece moments.

AA development seems to be focused keeping the single player solo experience alive. But the big developers are only concerned about the MTX and milking players who enjoy multiplayer.

ChasterMies387d ago (Edited 387d ago )

The age of AA shooters. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I like less expense, shorter games.

Abear21388d ago

Weird all the Wolfenstein articles.

Can you guess what will be announced at Xbox showcase?

DefenderOfDoom2388d ago

What Machine Games did with Wolfenstein franchise is awesome. The game play definitely to me , is still very fun to play !!!
