Despite being technologically obsolete, swords being anchored in yesteryear has done nothing to prevent them from being featured in a plethora of videogames stemming from all eras. Be it Link wielding the Master Sword in the fantastic world of Hyrule or Cloud slashing through dystopian monarchies in the slums of Midgar, swords are a welcome addition to all decades and genres.
There are dozens of reasons for the sword’s continued popularity in videogames. They allow for great gameplay possibilities, they retain a nostalgic charm and as a rose is a rose is a rose, swords also just look cool.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.
Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!
