I think it's actually worse when you have a Naomi Kyle situation. In that case IGN presents her as a legitimate gamer, yet she constantly "hasn't had a chance to play that yet." In general, she has almost nothing to contribute to even basic gaming discussions. Her greatest contibution is, by far, her attractiveness and charm.

To me that's more insidious for the role of women in games journalism. I'd take a Keza Macdonald over a Naomi Kyle anytime.

And for goodness sake, actually learn what oppression is. There isn't a single woman in all of North America or in the U.K. that is oppressed. I could sit here all day and tell you the kind of B.S. I've had to hear even though I'm a guy. Things like insults about penis sizes, or insults involving homosexual acts, or whatever. But the difference between most male gamers, and most female gamers, is that the male gamers don't care. I think the point of her comment is not that it portrays girl gamers as sluts, but as attention whores that constantly flaunt their minority status and "girlishness" and make gamertags like "S3XYC0DCH1CK". And those people definitely exist, and i can vouch that whenever i used my mic on xbox live or whatever, 75% of the time i got treated like an attention whore, or a sex object, or at the very least a sort of museum curiosity (are you a giiiiirl?). Anita Sarkeesian is the worst thing to happen to gamers in decades. She has done more to segregate and divide gamers than anyone. She continually panders to the D-bags, by intentionally pouring fuel onto the fire. Her agenda is made rather clearly and with a bias on her twitter and webpage. As someone who is honestly a little appalled by some of the sterotypes that continue to occur in videogames, I find myself agitated by some of her comment as I take some almost as personal attacks against my gender.

So girl gamers out there, are you ok going back to the stereotype that girl gamers don't exsist or that somehow gamers are all fat slobs who live in their mothers basements, squinting at the TV while they play in the dark with a half full urine bottle next to them along with trash everywhere?

Asking the obvious, why does it seem that some are trying to state what a girl gamer should be rather than I dunno, realizing that everybody in the world is different? Realizing that women out there could potentially look like them and actually game? Be sexy while gaming?
