Exploring the universe is a tough gig at the best of times: unexplored territories, dangerous locals and preposterous pets make for a hostile work environment. Good thing you have your trusty clone in tow to do all the hard graft for you! Welcome to the many worlds of Shattered Planet by KitFox Games, a third person, chess-like strategy game in which you hack, negotiate and document your way through the galaxy.
Shattered Planet plays very much like a turn based strategy game. The game itself starts off with the player selecting a playable character – initially only two different characters are available, one alien and one human, with a male and female variation of each. The player is then launched into the game by way of a tutorial, throughout which your boss – a strange mole-like creature – impresses upon you the importance of cataloging every known flora and fauna of the universe.
Shattered Planet is a roguelike survival game, and it's not very fun.
The Steam Summer Sale is over, but that doesn't mean all the cheap and awesome games are gone! Try out Shattered Planet and Asteria, two fun indies on Steam that are under $15 bucks that offer loads of game time.
I had self control this year, then again I own so many of the games on sale already.
CalmDownTom's review of Kitfox Games' Rogue-Like Shattered Planet. A solid return to the roots of the genre, slightly plagued by allowing too much of its core gameplay to be random.
