Cliff Bleszinski Talks Gears 2, Pressure Of Delivering On The Sequel

Cliff Bleszinski admits to feeling a little pressure when it comes to the Gears franchise. After racking up a boatload of AIAS awards on what he called a "straightforward Jerry Bruckheimer-like" production in the first Gears, Bleszinski and the guys at Epic have set the bar. Not bad for a game Epic never mapped out as a franchise. In this interview Cliff hints at new finishing moves, weapons and more news to come once E3 rolls around.

The game play in the original was stellar and exciting,the graphics as well.

Improve the Multiplayer,improve the story,and the sequel will be much better.

Yea ur right about that. Nothing was broke in my opinion so hopefully the core gameplay is the same. I do appreciate the added tweaks tho. Such as chainsaw duels, Fist fights, and human shields. Plus on the demo video shown the game looks alot smoother. The first game was smooth enough, this one just looks even better.

Plus i cant wait to see how environment damage will add to multiplayer. It looks like you can do things like blow holes in the floor and shoot at someone if they happen to be on the level under you. (thats just from the looks of the tech demo at GDC)

Epic is going to print money with the sequel. I don't know if they need to add a whole lot in terms of story. I like the fact that he admits to producing a straight up "Bruckheimer" experience with the first Gears.

This has about as much of a chance failing for 360 as MGS4 does for PS3. In other words, no chance, it'll be a highly successful game.

they'll make sure it does, they arent the kind of dev to push a game out unfinished or if it needs work (aside from the multiplayer glitch exploits)

example: see how stubborn they are being with UT3? even though they had bad sales (ut3 didn't sell as well as it should have) and needed to release on 360 they still havent because they want the full experience for 360 owners

i just want to hear the words dedicated servers (crosses fingers) anyway i hope they make sure that the snipe when active reloaded doesnt down you it should take you to all but dead 99% unless of course its a head shot i just dont want a bunch of noobs running for the sniper on the second outing online (favorite part of the game is multiplayer)

Gears 1 was a great game. My only complaint was the online setup. They need to put in some sort of matchmaking system this time.... if they just do that I'll be a happy man

The only thing I'm worried about is their going to rehash a bunch of the old multiplayer maps like TF2 or Halo. I've already seen screenshots of a few mp maps that were in Gears1 that are going to be in Gears2.

I'm a long time Team Fortress fan and when I got the new version I was so underwhelmed - half of the levels in that game are spot on recreations of older ones. Not to mention the lack of weapons for each class

The first one was a great title and UT3 to me was one of the worst games ive ever played this next gen on my ps3. It had cool mods u can download, unfortanately it just wasnt well balanced in my opinion, maybe it was more suited for pc gamers but I found it way off playing it on a console. I like the gears gameplay alot better better then UT3 and the sequal should be a hit aswell.

Im sorry man. But i absolutely LOVE Unreal Tournament 3. I had it on the PS3 for quite some time. Unfortunately I had to take it back tho. I will be replacing it with the 360 version because The PS3 version had no voice chat. I have no idea why but it just didnt. Plus i think epic might use there more updated UE3 on the 360 version.

I guess you really have to be a fan to appreciate Unreal

was one of the best co-op games I've ever played, can't wait to see what Gears 2 brings. The graphics look much cleaner and the story looks to be a lot lot bigger. I'm sure Gears 2 will be money in the bank for Epic and MS.
