Driveclub game director Paul Rustchynsky has confirmed to VG247 that Evolution Studios’ PS4 racer will run at 1080p and 30 frames-per-second. He has explained why he feels this is the best fit for the game.
I don't know man. I'm a little ticked off they've delayed it over a YEAR and they haven't hit 60fps. 3-6 months fine but an entire year.
Although saying that on the plus side look at the majority of stuff which Forza 5 had to sacrifice to hit 60FPS for example, it was lacking compared to Forza 4.
So in the end maybe this is a good choice....who knows. It was either going to be good graphics or 60fps.
Exactly, have you guys seen this game? It looks absolutely incredible. If it's locked 30fps with no fluctuations then I'm a happy camper (racer) Can't wait for my club to take over the world! Who wants in? Haha.
I frankly don't care about the FPS as long as its a solid racer. Its not as if the delay was solely to try and reach 60fps. Here's hoping the game itself plays well.
Strange because from what I've heard in this "community" 30FPS is suitable for every game besides Fighters/Racers/ Twitch Shooters.
Yet despite being delayed for over a year and being a racer running in 30fps, it ok as long as it's great game, I wonder if the reception would have been as civil if this was an X1 game.
@Georgenoob, Maybe so, but at least it would be one of the minority of games to achieve 1080p on X1. It would also be the X1's best looking racer hands down.
I love how people question "1 year and 30 fps" LOL. You think it's that easy working on the framerates ? 30fps was probably their target since the delay. They wanted to push the graphics instead of the framerate and that is what they did. They can easily make it 60fps, but that would DECREASE the graphics quality.
I love how gamers think they are entitled to tell devs how to do their jobs. If you are not okay with the final product, don't buy it, but please don't spew about how you are Andy and the devs should have been able to hit 60fps. I'm see they did their best to and made the decision they felt was best for the game.
You must not be a PS4 gamer or are completely new here. If a raced is not 1080p\60fps, it is not next gen. I do know you are not new here, and you are a PS4 gamer, but you are way out of the loop on this one, and may be disbarred.
Keep in mind that Forza 5 (Xbox One) has achieved both marks and was available at launch. You know PS4 fans want this to be at here performance on "Superior" hardware, no?
Im not trying to be a prude but if you guys really want your next gen racing addiction, just drive GT6 on PS3 or simply wait (I know, I know) for the announcement of GT7Prologue on PS4.
Look I've said before, I loved Evolution's work on the mighty Motorstorms (the Best Off-Road Racing series ofAll-Time) and was excited to hear that they would grace the PS4 with its first "racer", but I also new it would be simcade and not as robust as my tastes for console racing require, but I also knew it would be a place marker for me on my way to getting my hands on Project Cars and eventually the mother lode with GT(X).
I know a lot of you who aren't hard core racing fans were looking forward to this being 60fps, having real time weather & lighting etc, etc and I feel your pain. On the other hand, for those comparing this game to T10's Forza 5 - that is silly and not a real comparison. You know it and I know it, and I see what you're doing there ;) but if you're going to flaunt F5 as your representation of what a real nextgen racer is, then you're going to have to wait until the "real one" hits the PS4 from Polyphony Digital.
P-CARS are also 1080p/30fps on PS4/XO, confirmed last week. Driveclub...so much visual fidelity, so much stuff going on @rock solid 30 fps... I'm fine with that. At least this game has NO DOWNGRADES!
"P-CARS are also 1080p/30fps on PS4/XO, confirmed last week" - No it wasn't I think you're mixing up with the crew.
There are targeting 60fps first -
“Our aim is always for the best gameplay experience possible and if that means 1080p/60fps is achievable without compromising ‘awesome stuff happening whilst racing’ then fantastic. So it’s the target yes, but it’s something every developer has to balance nearer to launch and it’ll be no different for ourselves.”
30fps instead of 60fps is not a downgrade on a racer. It is a freaking racer for crying out loud! The hold premise is about achieving top speed. If you have to cut something, fps should be the last thing you touch.
Well at least the game should be very playable at 30fps, but sense of speed will be hurt by this. Having pretty vista in an arcade racer could wear really fast if the cars feel under powered at 30fps.
All trolling Aside, The game just looks too visually impressive to run at 1080p AND 60fps. Both Syatems this gen are weaker then what I expected them to be, which was Infamous SS or Ryse Graphics AND 1080p/60fps. The PS4 is more capable, but both systems I would have believed 2 years ago would be hitting that benchmark off the start. Either way, Driveclub looks really Fun!
Agreed. 60fps requires literally double the performance if im not mistaken?
I think everyone should reel back their expectations of both consoles this gen. We are going to get 1080p 30fps a lot, unless devs want to sacrifice visuals for FPS. But many devs do not want to do that, eye-candy sells.
Ryse was running at 1080p and 30 frames originally on the x box 1, before release, but they scaled it down to 900p and 30 frames, not sure the 30 frames if its locked at that.
The performance on Ryse is lot better since launch.
Impressive to have a launch game of this quality on x box 1 with all its problems with software and development tools.
Devs estimate Sony game tools were least a year ahead of Microsoft, before launch. Microsoft wasn't ready to come out with its console in 2013, 2014 was the scheduled release. Sony forced their hand.

Polys on Marius are cut by a double. And framerate are not stable.
Quote : at E3 2013 even Sony games looked different at release. Killzone 1080p multiplayer lie more like 720p
I told you few days ago how work "temporal reprojected" 1080p and there is NO UPSCALING!
Here ( AGAIN ) :
KZ: SF is 1080p, both in singleplayer and multiplayer. Despite that in MP Guerilla use "temporal reprojection" for achieveing 1080p. And there is NO UPSCALING image. So, techically, MP is @1080p.
Or hell, just give gamers the option!!! I don't understand why more companies don't do this with console games. If someone wants to run the game at 1080p/30fps they can. If another gamer wants to run the game at 900p/60fps (or whatever resolution it would take to get it to 60fps) they should have the option to do so.
I f**king knew that they would not be able to hit 60fps with those visuals.
All racing and fighting games are spoilt by running at 30fps.
Disagree all you like people but the Xbone and PS4 just do not have the raw power to do [email protected] with this level of graphical detail, guess we have to wait for next gen or PC.
Even if it was next gen it wouldn't matter, developers on consoles would rather their games LOOK good that PERFORM good, even if the PS4/XB1 were more powerful dev's will find away to maximise the graphics at the expense of the performance.
Reason being it's easier to sell a game on screenshot's and youtube video's (YT doesn't allow 60fps), that and the average consumer is clueless when it comes to 30-60FPS, all they care is if the game looks good.
1080P/60FPS on all games is a luxury reserved for thy glorious PC master race, not us small dirty peasant console gamers.
PGR 4 ran at 720p 30 fps and that game was way ahead of its time regarding visuals/ features. It had interchangeable weather, day and night cycles, looked amazing visually and also had a real sense of speed. Considering DC is more or less in the same vein as The PGR series then we have nothing to worry about. Count me in.
Here's the funny thing about this I've played GT6, Forza 5, and NFS Most Wanted, and I can say without a doubt that NFS felt way faster than the two sim racers.
Knew it. I said yesterday that there was no way they could get that level of graphical fidelity AND 60fps. At least now i don't have to eat my socks on a livestream, lol.
Little disappointed, but it hasn't altered my hype for the game. My pore order ain't goin' nowhere! Lol.
It is a little disappointing, but at the same time after see the lighting engine and particle effects in the latest video, I think it's understandable. The fog blowing through the mountains as the sun passes overhead is amazing!
I know I'm going to love this game. My hype is through the roof right now after watching that trailer yesterday, and reading the update that came out today. 1080p @ 30fps lock is more than fine by me. The social aspects and inter-connectivity of it sounds awesome as well. Can't wait to play this game.
I love Sony but I keep my expectations real. 1080p & 60fps won't be a standard this gen. At most it will be 1080p with variable fps ~30+. Which is fine, games will look phenomenal like Driveclub.
That's a bit disappointing . I mean nfs rivals was 30fps and still enjoyable so i can deal with it. But when the point of the delay is to get 60fps and you still don't get it, that's really underwhelming.
Gonna have to take some points off of Evolution for that.
@Lukas I assume that's what the delay was for, i'm not certain. But after seeing how nfs turned out I'm more open to 30fps.
I don't think they actually ever confirmed that the reason for the delay was to reach 60fps, did they? I think it was just a general agreed assumption amongst fans.
"DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations."
When you have them visuals something has got to give. Not much of a racing fan but for a game like this seeing as it's not trying to be a sim it should ok right?
"It’s allowed us to create some of the biggest tracks you will ever see in a racing game, with the most visually-dense environments, as well as a full global illumination system which allows us to make time of day, where shadows are cast, full-on reflections. It’s allowed us to push all those various areas"
Would be interesting to see how Project Cars comes out seeing as it's going for the extra opposite goals. Personally I think it's fine the environment/atmosphere is what got me to be interested in the game in the first place.
Forza always targeted 60fps because it was necessary for the physics model they had in place (which is why Forza 2 was so ugly compared to other games at the time like Project Gotham) so it must have a noticable impact on gameplay.
But as you say, Drive Club doesn't claim to be a sim and I don't think you need xyz physics calculation cycles per second to make a handling model that focuses on fun.
This game seems to be fitting the same gap Project Gotham used to occupy, which is a very good thing (PGR was awesome, and we aren't short on sims already).
I don't know why people are so upset with 30fps because if it was a deal breaker for people this game shouldn't have been on their radar. There was little hope it was going to be 60fps given how the game looks. And from the trailer yesterday with the in-game section it's improved from the last we saw it.
Project Cars will happily welcome people if 30fps in a racer is a deal breaker for them.
Oh yeah because we all know 30fps is better than 60!! What a numpty!!! All that detail will just be a blur in motion anyway so they should have gone for 60 at the cost of some detail!!!
Were you not there for the backlash of Forza? "...blur in motion anyway so they should have gone for 60 at the cost of some detail!!!" Even though gamers will be racing and everything will be passing them by at a high rate of speed. But some will stop to "smell flowers". How you think they notice the cardboard cut outs of the spectators in forza? I'm not trolling on Forza, im just trying to point out all the negativities that Forza recieved when this was made public.
The little details are nice to look at once or twice then you forget all about them and get back to racing!! Personally I'd rather have double the frame rate!!
so much for the delay giving them time to hit 60 FPS.
