Critical Intel Will The Xbox One Fail in Asia?

Robert Rath:

Though I live in Hong Kong, I could buy an Xbox One in about 30 minutes if I wanted to. There's a guy in the market who always has one in stock, imported from the United States in someone's suitcase. They go for $900 a pop, because the system doesn't release here until September. We'll see then if anyone wants to buy it.

It'll perform how it's been performing in the rest of the world.

With no other competition in that market?

cyguration2095d ago

Like the average poor person in China could afford one?

stuna12096d ago

I don't think it's going to do as well as some think it will do with a camera attached to it.

True, with MS's reputation to send info to NSA i would say a couple of these countriesmight be worried.

Ghost_Nappa2095d ago

They don't freely share personal info with the nsa, if the nsa demands information ms is legally bound to comply

I know, and its not just them. But still.

In the standard operation of the law, of checks and balances, there is a difference of a law enforcement agency saying to a company, "We have reason to believe this person on your customer list is in the process of committing a crime, here is a judge's sophena which gives up permission to ask for their records," and "Give us all your customer records because we say so."

Nevermind we're talking about China where Kinect may have to be modded to send information directly to their version of the NSA.

Microsoft's primary market is the west. They could find success in other nations, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Its doing ok here in Australia and we are part of the Asian region, I think it will be fine and look forward to seeing a new wave of games coming from these countries good and bad.

I think historically XBox hasn't done well in Japan, and with even Wii U and PS4 struggling there now, there is little to no hope for XB1. The other Asian countries it hasn't released in are a bit of a different story. None of those countries (except South Korea) are very well known for gaming, but the XB1 will be somewhat competitive. I don't see being the top console in any of them, but it will sell. (Speaking of which, MS needs to get the rights to put 감은 사막 on consoles...that would go a long way in South Korea...and US).
