Why Call of Duty 2014 Will be Third-Person

Before Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games was brought in by Activision to make a third-person Call of Duty game. When nearly half of Infinity Ward’s staff left following the departure of Vince Zampella and Jason West, that game was officially “put on hold.".......

This idea seems ridiculous. That's like Uncharted going FPS, i just don't see it.

I think what they need to do is get rid of all the future crap. The game has become too farfetched and flashy. They need to go back to simplicity like COD 4, something relatable.

In truth though they don't NEED to do anything, they're still gonna sell shitloads.

I must be one of the few who loved the Third Person game modes in MW2. It didn't add much but it felt 'different'.

I don't think that would be drastic enough because World at War, and MW 2 and 3 both had 3rd person modes. Just doing a 3rd person mode isn't a risk.

Yeah adding it in as an option makes sense as it offers more choice - even fps games like Unreal Tournament had 3rd person view option.

Best-selling doesn't mean it doesn't need innovation or improvement. A large chunk of the sales come from stupid parents blindly buying for their idiot kids. The majority of the CoD community are composed of idiots claiming it's great because they've never played anything but CoD and refuse to. Besides, they're already alienating their fanbase by re-releasing the same game over and over with nothing but a new coat of paint and bouncing from Nazi's to Russians to Chinese and nothing else because "MURICA!".

It may have it but it won't be completely third person. Call of Duty's main selling point is that its a very fluid and quick FPS Change that to a 3rd person, which are traditionally slower, your alienating your core audience.

Gears of War is third person and my view has the best multiplayer experience on the 360. Its a fast game too. This has peaked my interest in the game. Call of Duty is boring now needs to be doing something new for me to buy it.

Third person gives you a bigger view on the screen you actually see more of the game. When you're viewing in first person the hands take up less than half of the gaming view. it would be wise of sledgehammer to have both modes the third person viewing in the first person viewing.

No it won't, it might have a 3rd person mode like MW2 but it'll be FPS. TPS is too much of a risk for Activision and they like to always play it safe...unfortunately.

Never. This kind of change could literally kill the franchise if done badly or if done at all for some people. True there isn't that much competition in third-person shooters atm but they can't just go changing the franchise formula like that especially when in the games that had the option it wasn't like it was a overly popular playlist.

I think if they were going to do an all-out 3rd person COD game...it would have been one of the many releases over the last 7-8 years.

COD won't give up the FPS market in favor of "trying something new". It's as vanilla as vanilla gets people.

That's why they are beginning to see limping sales. Activision will always sell enough to make their money back, but they will never see MW2 numbers again unless they take risks. They did in 2007 with MW and it paid off brilliantly.
