The Daily Five: Reasons to Stay Excited for Uncharted 4

"If you’re reading this particular Daily Five, you’re likely aware that Naughty Dog has run into a few…let’s call them hiccups. Several key people have left the studio for one reason or another — from key creatives like Amy Hennig and Justin Richmond to voice actors and artists — and suddenly it seems that the sky is falling at Sony’s premier game house and their upcoming Uncharted for PS4.

Well, poppycock. I certainly understand if you’re worried about the state of the new Uncharted after all of these departures, but take heart — the game will be just fine. Don’t believe me? Let me give you a few reasons why." - Joe Garcia

Naughty Dog is considered one of the best if not the best of the best developers in the world today.

But there is a price on their heads for being the best:
Head Hunters!

One of Naughty Dog's co-presidents' biggest challenge is how to keep their best talents staying with them because their reputation means many big corporations are hunting for their talents on a daily basis.

And this is very strong reason to believe why talents are leaving. Greener Grass as in the color of money.

Watch these carefully people:

You will know the reason why they did Uncharted 3 & TLOU.

Neil Druckman and Bruce Starley has been instrumental in making Uncharted 2 Among Thieves the landmark milestone game it still is. Most awarded game of all time before they did The Last of Us.

If they are doing Uncharted PS4 well I have 100% full confidence we are going to have a true next gen spiritual successor to Uncharted 1, 2 & 3.

So people need to calm down, relax and watch Uncharted 4 unfold. ND knowing how to top themselves time and time again is proven. And they know how to get things done in a timely manner.

Since it's NaughtyDog it will be a good game regardless, they haven't made a bad game yet

However the main concern is whether or not it's going to feel like an Uncharted game. That's why I'm worried....excited but worried.

I wouldn't want to play the game where I feel like I'm playing a brand new IP from them only to realise it's actually Uncharted.

I really hope Nathan Drake is still the main character, along with Sully and Elena. Elena was hardly in Uncharted 3.

The only thing that you need to worry is that it doesn't play like Uncharted 3. The shooting mechanics were horrible (thankfully later patched and fixed), but overall it felt disappointing.

I didn't like that there were hordes of enemies and a lot of them forced you to melee with them, because the focus was the melee on it (sadly). Then, there were so many enemies that were bullet sponges.

I also didn't like that the three games had SPOILER: Supernatural dudes that were un-killable (specially in 3) and moved much faster than you. IMO, the gameplay mechanics are not suited to have these enemies moving so fast, because your character is not built that way.

Cause they are still being led by talented creative directors and producers.

Cause 95% of the talent and resources that shaped the previous games are still there.

Cause Naughty Dog always manages to make fantastic games, regardless of the team.

My only concern is it that the game that they are making now is much different from what they were originally making before people left and direction shifted. And that the game we play may not be as good as the concept it was going to be. We'll probably never know, but it's difficult not to think about that.

"Cause Naughty Dog always manages to make fantastic games, regardless of the team."

Your basis for that is?

Don't be so naïve to think that a handful of people leaving can't impact the direction that a game will take.

Remove one man in particular from the Metal Gear franchise and it would likely become a VERY different game. And i'm not talking about Hayter. ;)

Definitely people leaving can impact the direction of the game but it depends, will it be good, bad or even better than before?

Neil and Bruce worked on Uncharted too with Amy and Justin, so its not like its the ones who left that defined the game. Infact the current developers made an even more better game with the Last of Us. Plus with the hiring of Corrie Yu and help from other Sony studios, I dont see much to be worried about with Uncharted 4

I admit I didn't read the article because I don't really need a reason to stay excited for Uncharted.....

I'm still pumped over the last 3 games, plus it's ND ;)

I would like another kind of story. In the 3 games we got the same supernatural "twist". I would like for it to be somewhat different. Either other kind of twist, or go in a more "realistic" direction like the Last of Us, but with more action and near-to-death-but-miracoulsy-n athan-saves-himself-and-the-oth ers sequences. Those are fun.
