Are You The Games You Play?

From EGMR, "I regularly wonder what defines us as gamers. Are we the games we play, or not? Normally this is a topic I often stray away from because it’s so broad in its nature and discussing it can be quite troublesome. I think often gamers become preoccupied with the games that other gamers play, and see it as some sort of indicator about a gamer’s status as a “gamer”."

I'm a gamer "someone who plays games" i'm NOT a hardcore gamer (my idea of a hardcore gamer is someone who plays EVERYTHING) I like rock hard challenging games (which some may think is what a hardcore gamer is, I don't)

There's loads of supposedly great games I haven't played, Final Fantasy 7, pretty much every game on the Xbox, only ever played one Zelda game on the Gameboy, not played Half Life 2 for more than an hour (PS3 version sucked)

I'm just someone who doesn't need to be surrounded by gaming, I don't need to play everything, I play what excites me which isn't a great deal to be honest, other than the Witcher 3 (I would like to add The Division but i've lost faith in Ubisoft)

The only time I can recall buying a game based on other peoples opinions is Demon's Souls, I normally look at something and KNOW within seconds if it's for me or not, so i'll comment "meh, that Titanfall looked awight, probably something I would rent" which would be my HONEST opinion "WHAT, you're just a fanboy mofo"

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
