Agarest: Generations of War Zero Review | The Game Scouts

Robert Roodhouse: This is my first review for The Game Scouts and I must admit that I’m enormously stepping out of my area of expertise on this one. Speaking frankly, I’m most likely more than a bit ethno-centrist in my adamant resistance to anime and the JRPG genre; I am a big fan of Western storytelling and will always choose Batman over Dragonball Z. The only Final Fantasy game I actually played much was the lucky number seven, and even that wasn’t really my cup of tea. That makes this something akin to flying to Japan and ordering at the first restaurant off the plane; the odds of getting something comfortable and familiar are low, but it’s still best to keep an open mind and enjoy the new experience. As luck would have it, Agarest did nothing to turn my stomach. Serving as a prequel, Agarest puts ye mighty player in the shoes of Sieghart, a character so powerful that he immediately dies in the second fight he finds himself in; have no fears, for a mysterious woman will bring him back to life, imbuing him with extraordinarily more acceptable powers.

Battle of Z is not even worth the discounted 15€ price IMO.

Tbh I am enjoying the game, but I don't feel as compelled to play it as I did with the PS2 Budokai games.

I have however just bought the Super Barduk and Super Vegito DLCs for just over £2 for them both, maybe using OP characters will make it more fun :)

It has very little actual depth in the gameplay compared to B/BT games and you cant even fall back to the excuse that "at least supers look nice" because they dont.

IMO BT3's effects and attacks put all other DB game to shame (BOZ's simply look poor compared to them).

Probably the only reason I was kinda looking foward to the game was SSJ Bardock (Barduk ? Is that like different translation or different regional name ?)

Agarest: Generations of War Zero (PC) Review - cubed3

"Cubed3 recently reviewed the predecessor to this game, Agarest: Generations of War, and for better or worse, most of that review could be copied, pasted, had a few names changed, and still be one hundred percent accurate. Detailing events prior to the original game, Agarest: Generations of War Zero is a JRPG developed by Idea Factory, which has made the move over to PC through the team at Laughing Jackal. Again like the first title, expect throwbacks to older JRPGs, sprite-based graphics, pre-rendered character designs, and a game that is unlikely to ring in others outside of its established audience."

Agarest: Generations of War – Zero SteamFirst Review

SteamFirst: Agarest: Generations of War Zero is a prequel to Idea Factory’s Record of Agarest War (2008). The game was published by Aksys games in the US, Ghostlight in Europe and self-published in Japan. This game is an SRPG by the incredible minds over at Compile hearts and is everything but your typical SRPG.
