Sonic Boom To Use Enhanced Crytek 3 Engine; Standard Engine Wouldn't Suffice

Usually the Wii U isn’t associated with being a graphic powerhouse, so the fact that when Sonic Boom was announced to be using the Crytek 3 engine, people took notice. What was once considered “unbelievable” on the system, the trailer for Sonic Boom looked like it could easily be on the PS4 or Xbox One, but was exclusively for Wii U. Now, new details are emerging that the standard Crytek 3 engine actually couldn’t handle Sonic Boom.

This game has me very interested. I will probably end up buying this day one. Add it to the list of other games I'll be pre-ordering for my Wii U. I need to find a way to get more money in my wallet, too many great games come out this year.

randomass1714078d ago

I'm still not sure about it because it's a TV show tie-in. I think I want to see more of it before I jump in.

Summons754078d ago

I don't think that will matter much. I think the game is a lead up to the show. These devs have worked super close for a few years now with Team Sonic and have a bunch of people with a good resume of games behind them. I think it'll be pretty fun, definitely worth giving a chance.

This is getting a tv show? Cool I'll watch it

"The two co-founders(of Big Red Button) have a long history with Naughty Dog: Bob Rafei was the Art Director of Naughty Dog for the past 13 years. E. Daniel Arey acted as Senior Designer and Creative Director of Naughty Dog for ten years."

"Big Red Button consists of people from Naughty Dog, High Impact Games (former Insomniac people who made the Ratchet games for PSP) and Heavy Iron Studios."

So I'm optimistic.

randomass1714078d ago

Well dang, if there are former members of Naughty Dog on this time I completely take back my cynicism. Looking forward to seeing the next trailer. :)

It has all the makings of what could be a classic Sonic game that we haven't seen in a long time.

sonic9894078d ago

i am sorry man but as a long long time Sonic fan well am not too excited about it .
i hated the Sonic design it makes him look lanky .
i hope Sonic team is doing their supervision part closely because Sonic is a japanese character with japanese origin and now those western devs have different picture of everything so they must make sure those guys dont run wild and ruin it .
its a smart move to not release it in Japan i have a feeling that the head of Sonic Team isnt very happy with it .

-Foxtrot4078d ago

No offense but people said the same about Sonic Lost Worlds..look how that turned out.

Chrischi19884078d ago

It actually sold pretty well and played much better than what reviews, especially on this site, said about it.

randomass1714078d ago

@Foxtrot

I actually really like Lost World. The level design wasn't amazing, but it has a lot of good ideas and some funny writing. Definitely a stellar modern Sonic game. Better than Unleashed for sure.

From what we've seen so far, this is probably the most attractive Sonic The Hedgehog game in the last 10 years.

LOL_WUT4078d ago

Are you kidding me? The fact that they botched up his character design again proves to me they still have no idea in which direction they want to take the character in. ;)

morpha4078d ago

It is so incredibly hilarious to me how everyone cries about his character design. There is nothing massively wrong with it, its no more ridiculous than any other video game character design.

Long time Sonic fans just like to cry because its different.

Long time Sonic fans are the exact demographic Sega doesnt give a **** about anymore. The show, the game. All made for kids. If your old enough to be posting on message boards; they arent making this for you.

Can't wait to get my hands on this!

ReesesPuffs4078d ago

This has caught my attention. Can't wait to hear about and see more of the game.

ICANPLAYGAMES24078d ago

I'm certainly interested, and I probably will end up buying it eventually (maybe even day 1, but that all depends on what else is launching around it).

wonderfulmonkeyman4078d ago

It's like I've been saying all along; it may not be the PS4/XBone's graphical equivalent, but it's close enough to be able to handle some truly beautiful games.

Also, art style matters so much more than pixel count, to me, and this has some very nice art going for it.

Can't wait to give this game a spin.[dash]

Sonic The Hedgehog: 6 Classic Sonics We'd Love to See in The Movie's Redesign

Here are some classic Sonic designs that could replace the controversial original debuted in Paramount's latest trailer.

SegaGamer2234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

Just scrap the whole thing. Nobody wants a Sonic movie, especially the fans. Hollywood rarely gets game movies right.

PhoenixUp2234d ago

How can any studio executive look at the time tested and proven Sonic designs over the years and come up with that monstrosity

Just look how how the Detective Pikachu movie successfully adapts so many of Pokémon to the big screen to mostly everyone’s visual pleasure.

Why would you deviate from that? The blueprint is already in front of you!

jaymacx2234d ago

This is why it is important that a movie maker form their vision around the source material instead of having the source material conform to a movie maker’s vision. Hollywood usually does the later unfortunately.

FlyingFoxy2234d ago

Eh, people are going to find a way to bash it IMDB style no matter what. I personally rarely pay attention to those kind of sites since taste differs anyways.

chris2352234d ago

the only people who are goin towatch this is toddlers with their parents. no need to get too elaborated about this project.

Sonic Boom series: Not a Total Failure

The Sonic Boom series get a lot of flack from the Sonic and gaming community at large. And in a lot of ways that's very much earned. But not all is bad when it comes to Sonic Boom games if you're willing to step around (or forgive) Rise of Lyric.

Sonic Boom Can Finally Die

The Sonic Boom games have all been bad. Some gave Fire & Ice a shot, hoping for a revival, but things haven't changed.

I hope Sega stops producing Sonic Boom games. The TV show is great though

-Foxtrot3177d ago

The TV series is just as bad

You want something to die for good...you got to get rid of everything.

XisThatKid3177d ago

I'm into some pretty dumb shows but Sonic Boom is certain garage. There way to comedic relationship with Robotnik and Sonic friends is a deal breaker for me off the jump despite everything else wrong with this abomination.

SegaGamer3177d ago

The show is awful too. Everything surrounding Sonic Boom is just not what Sonic is. The Cartoon, the games, the voice actors, the character designs, it's all terrible.
