Titanfall (Xbox One, PC) review | InsideTheBox

These game sites are really ruining their reputation giving such high scores to such average games like titanfall. If Titanfall 2 comes out next year with an amazing 15 hour story driven campaign, innovative features added to the multiplayer, bigger maps, more customizable features, characters, weapons, titans, enhanced graphics and particle effects and running at 1080p on xbone, all this would only accumulate to a score increase of 1.0? Titanfall is a 7/10 game at best, I don't care how much these sites get paid to write these pathetic reviews, 9/10 lol

Pandamobile3656d ago

It's almost like people are allowed to voice their opinions on the merits of a game.

coolbeans3655d ago

I don't get how hypothetically speaking about the supposed TF2 in the future would diminish what TF is NOW. When looking at the field of online shooters as it is right now, why can't a 9/10 be allowed here when it already has innovative features and well-designed maps that are pretty big already?

RamboRabbi3655d ago (Edited 3655d ago )

Because it clearly shows that the review system is flawed if a superior game to titanfall now or in a year's time gets a similar or lower score. Titanfall is getting similar scores to games that are obviously better in terms of development, replayability and content just because of a massive Xbox hype train suffocating gamers with PR bullshit just like COD. If reviews are going to hop on the bandwagon gifting this average game 9/10 or 10/10 then anyone with any common sense would take their review system with a pinch of salt in the future due to its lack of legitimacy.

Edit :

I understand sites are allowed to post their opinion about a game in their review but when you see how critical they are in regards to what most people would consider a better game overall it just makes people like me suspicious in regards to how they actually come to their conclusion/final score.

"Because it clearly shows that the review system is flawed if a superior game to titanfall now or in a year's time gets a similar or lower score."

First, I'm not sure why you'd say now or in a year's time b/c my statement only reflected future tense. According to many, there isn't that many superior games now for this particular genre/niche anyways. So let's look at the "in a year's time." That wouldn't be a sign of a flawed review system based on that reasoning b/c that's known as evolving standards. Those evolving standards are what were applied by most reviewers here to begin with: the genre had felt a bit stagnant on the MP front and this title came along and placed in several nuanced or reworked ideas. If a later game comes out and revitalizes on THIS 'revitalization,' there's nothing wrong with said game getting a similar score b/c of those aforementioned evolving standards.

"Titanfall is getting similar scores...."

"obviously better" is totally subjective to the eyes of the gamer, though. To suggest everyone just became fueled by the marketing hype instead of just giving their honest opinions on a game THEY REALLY ENJOYED just because you believe better games released recently is rather immature.

"I understand sites are allowed to post their opinion about a game in their review but when you see how critical they are in regards to what most people would consider a better game overall it just makes people like me suspicious in regards to how they actually come to their conclusion/final score."

For starters, you can read the reviews between those titles to consider both the context and the person reviewing said title (the latter isn't always an option though). If the "overall better game" is just a reference to inFamous: Second Son than maybe also consider where it may falter in comparison to where its predecessor succeeded. And if my assumption the game you're referring to is correct, then I guess my hope at a conversation about reviews not falling into that "PS bias" sphere has been decimated. :/

Funky Town_TX3656d ago

Oh no a game other than a PS exclusive got a high score. It must be a paid review.

I dont get why this game gets such high scores. Its not that good.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad586d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad866d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal865d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
