In 2007, Halo had the chance to be a mega-franchise, but the boat was well and truly missed. It's time to move on and give up hope.
Cross platform...no, except for a PC port or 2 back in the mid 2000's. Mega franchise...No other exclusive farnchise except for Super Mario and similar games have even come close to the sales of the Halo franchise last gen, over 41m game sales just on 360.
Yeah, I'm not sure what this guy is talking about... Halo is still a wildly popular franchise, and with the excitement of a new generation, Microsoft has a golden opportunity to reignite the franchise. Speaking of the halo5 reveal, the muted response probably stems from the fact that all they did was announce that they are working on an xbox one halo game... We already knew that. There wasn't any gameplay or artwork to see, so people will hold their excitement until they can see what 343 is cooking. As far as missing the opportunity to branch halo into other forms of media, there's no time like the present. If an iron man film can launch a bunch of B list marvel super hero's into the highest grossing movie franchise of all time, then surely some quality Halo productions will do wonders for expanding the already massive halo fan base.
the author is a fuckwit. Halo is a mega franchise no matter how you look at it. You tell which other game has a larger library of novels, graphic novels, comic books and short animated films....? im currently nearing the end of the 2nd novel in the forerunner saga by Greg Bear. And just ordered the 3rd book in the Kilo 5 trilogy by Karen Travis. All brilliant books better than the games. Halo is a mega franchise and a mega story universe. Bungie really created a brilliant game universe. which is why im also so excited for destiny.
Halo is still pretty big. I heard Halo 3 outsold on the PS3 exclusives.....COMBINED. CRAZZZZY.
Welsh fag states Welsh fag's opinion... Totally news worthy...
@tbone you might be right. People don't relied this when touting first party dominance On Topic: I don't think that this article is valid because, halo the IP was owned from the beginning. Bungie has always been a 'Second Party' studio
Bungie does not own Halo. Nor do they have ANYTHING to do with Halo at this point. 343 has taken over command on Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo 4, which they produced. MS will never let Halo go, nor should they considering it is the biggest IP on their consoles.
I thought Bungie did Halo 3 and Reach. Wasn't Halo 4 343's first Halo game?
Yes bungie made halo 1,2,3,odst and reach. 343 was formed for the sole purpose of keeping the halo juggernaut going with their first game being halo 4
You are correct. However, Bungie gave up the rights to Halo entirely and transferred the overseeing of Halo 3, Halo Reach and (Halo:ODST) to 343 for management and overseeing of those games. Halo 3 actually had a message the other day from 343, which confirms they are overseeing those servers. They produced Halo 4 entirely at 343 (minus any help from Bungie) but 343 also contains many employees of Bungie's production team that worked on the other games. 343 will have absolute control over the next Halo as they did with Halo 4. Bungie's next move is Destiny and only Destiny.
