Max Parker of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette previewed Bethesda's 'The Evil Within' from PAX East 2014. It was bad.
wow...this guys article reads as if he'd made up his mind before seeing anything. i can't believe this game is THAT bad.
I still don't understand how anyone can make a judgement about this game with just demo footage. I'd like to know what it's like to actually fix it.
highly unprofessional to call a game dead before arrival. especially when its being made by mikami.im sure most of these journalists have had a rich history of making survial horror.but give the poor guy a chance. i mean dead before arrival?not even colonial marines was dead before arrival.and the other half of the previews are praising the exact same thing this is shitting over. the guy doesnt need to pant and scream like little girl all the time. given the game time of the demo,he's possibly grown accustomed to this stuff.screaming at every monster you see is unrealistic and stupid. also its probably our fault he doesnt know the name of the protag.the guys a gaming journalist, its literally his job to know stuff. not to go watch presentations and eat buffets ,and then spout ignorant crap. did anyone ever find it odd how leon in re4 didnt pee his pants 90% of the time?why ?because he's hardened and not a little girl. not even outlast remains scary after a while. i mean yea, shit hit the fans, youre screwed we get it, now get your shit together and do something about it.and for god's sake its no longer a surprise those wierd things wanna kill you so stop panting and acting surprised all the time
Maybe I just have bad taste, but this game looks good to me.
"The main character (I don’t know his name because it was never said, and there was no introduction to the demo) walks through a crumbling downtown of a city. Buildings and sidewalks are collapsing all around him. He never acknowledges any of these extraordinary events. The ground beneath him falls, plunging him about 30 feet below into unknown waters. He makes no sound. No scream, no inner monologue. Just silence." ^ It's 2014 and we're still getting triple A games that do this?! Has Shikami learned nothing from the last of us or Outlast? A main character reacting to the things that is happening to them is one of the essentials to this neat thing called IMMERSION.
It's just unplayable demo footage. Hardly something to judge the final product over.
Yeah let justified a game base on a unplayable demo, trailer or video. Its not like game in the past have fake all they have to offer in a trailer /s Dead island anyone?
I actually never thought this game looked good. I was hoping for more, and all the footage I see makes me more worried about the final product. I liked RE4, but I was hoping this was going to take a more survival horror approach. That is what it has been spouting. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm won't be surprised if this is a sad re-hash of the RE4 style.
It will be struggling to get out of those shackles.
Calling this a RE4 rehash is like saying Mighty No. 9 is a Mega Man rehash. It's quite like the former, but it's made by its creator. It will have the same great feeling but it will have its unique stylistic spin. Shinji Mikami is a game design genius and I trust him to make a great game.
agree on mikami. he's the guy who created RE 1 and 2...i'll give him the benefit of the doubt until he shows he's lost his touch.
I really hope there isn't a large supply of weapons/ammo.
this is the creator of Re1 man he knows horror and what to do
I know that. The author of the article said there was a large weapon wheel, I don't want this to be RE6 where you can shoot and punch your way through.
I'd really like to see the same demo they saw to get a better idea of why they said it wasn't scary.
I can smell failure.
I agree. The times have changed for survival horror and the RE4 style is great, but not really Survival Horror.
Looks like the developers are not paying for previews, game journalist praises if receive the money first!
You cannot truly judge a game until you play the whole, complete version start to finish. Shinji Makami is the freaking godfather of survival horror games and I'm sure this one will be fantastic.
Actually Evil Within is Action-Horror game (Shinji Try to Balance Action and horror ) Mikami said that focusing too much on the Action aspect will make the game fun/entertaining but less scary , on the other hand focusing entirely on the horror aspect will make the game scary but less fun/entertaining. What the team at Tango is striving for is to strike a balance... A sweet spot that will make a game scary, but fun at the same time. ( But game have Quality or not i don't know )
Scary, to me, IS fun! On the other hand action, to me, is also fun. I don't NEED them both in one game for it to be fun. It's just like the movies. Throwing all these genres together to reach a broader audience. Just because things are fun separately doesn't mean they should be joined together. I wish more devs (and movie studios) would see this
Well the good thing is, it does not come until late August and i would not be suprised if the game gets a delayed release date . "Because a delay of game, may make us wait a little bit. But a crappy game will suck forever !" a quote from GABE NEWELL
Also wanted to say , this game is meant to be played when you are by yourself , in the dark , speakers blasting, oh and the most important thing, from the very beginning of the game! This demo was just a couple parts of the game ! I am very pumped up for this game! The best well to tell if a game is good is by simply playing it from beginning to end!
And since Mr. Shinji Mikami made this game, I have a faith that this franchise will be successful as RE and other horror games out there.
The bottomline is that this game is releasing with Outlast and Daylight on the market for much less than full retail, and so far I haven't seen what set this game apart from those...
These are the same simpletons who give games like Thief a 7 or an 8.
