Why Does This MMO Seem So Much Better Than The Stuff We Get?

Black Desert, the Korean MMO that as a fantastic character creation system, is more than just a pretty game, you know. Judging from the trailer below, which showcases some battle mechanics, it also plays differently than many of the MMOs that we know.

I don't believe Elder Scrolls Online even plays this well, let alone looks as amazing as Black Desert. Combat looks too fun and I hope there's a western release.

The devs are doing this game right. I don't play MMOs but I'd play this.

Granted the visuals are vastly superior, but Guild Wars 2 plays much the same way in terms of the fluid combat. This is a bit faster, but it pretty much works the same.

gW2 is fast paced , but not a real time action game . It's a new speedy take on the usual eq/wow trope

There have been other fast paced MMOs. The biggest one that comes to mind is Tera Online. The problem with all MMOs now is that the questing is all the same. Kill 5 of those, 2 of that, 10 of these. It becomes monotonous.

Yeah it's usually very pretty but such an xp grind bore , even in PvP .

but questing in Black Desert and ArchAge have been said that it isnt that much of a grind.
in other news, the ArchAge NDA was lifted a few days ago and streams and youtube vids run wild now. and the English Alpha test is opening up soon aswell!

Because, on average Eastern devs are more creative and flashy with their gameplay and often times have better core design. Their tech just fell short for a while in the PS3/360 era.

Sure but dont forget the sad part when they often devolve such superior artstyle and gameplay into a boring xp grind , in the mmo genre at least .

It can be done for money income and a few f2ps , or simply to mask a complete lack of content beyond kills

I will admit that, while core gameplay in normally better and deeper there is often less stuff that is humanly achievable. Looking at you PSO and the Psycho Wand!

For those who don't know, the Psycho Wand was from an enemy that only appeared about 5 times per dungeon.

nah this seems nothing like guild wars 2, i was a huge fan of guild wars 2, this game looks leagues better in terms of combat.

For one, MMOs are still big in South Korea, so many of their developers focus on the MMO market. On the other hand, the MMO market in the West has slowly been dying for a while, WoW subscriptions are on a slight decline, most other sub-based MMOs have gone F2P because of low subscriptions numbers.

And, I would also like to mention that while this MMO probably plays great, expect it to quickly become nothing more than a boring grindfest with little to no end game content; just like so many Korean MMOs.

Maple Story is an excellent Korean MMO that is pure grinding. Also the fact that Maple Story ironically has no story whatsoever.

Not all Korean MMORPGs become a boring grinfest I was playing Lineage 2 for 8 years both in private (3 years) & official servers (5+ years) & I literally couldn't stop playing do u know why? because the end game was the most addictive sh1t I have ever experience clan wars, sieges, open PVP/PK, fight for EPIC bosses, constant fighting for the best spots there was competition about anything & everything on this game.

Black Desert moving on the same path & add a whole lot more on the mix like the amazing fast-paced action combat, the stunning visuals, the most amazing character creation I have ever see, the most crazy weather system that effect your gameplay & everything on the map, the non-boring/creative quest system & affinity system with NPCs, also a superb craft system with huge depth & last the build & house management, also there will be exploration quest for those who like to wonder around & on this game that's something any1 would like to do I think.

So yeah after trying various disappointing MMORPGs over the years that I thought they could revive my passion like in the good old times I was playing L2 that's the only one I think have the right stuff to succeed were everything else fail, but if by any chance this game fail also to recreate the addictiveness of L2 & make me return to L2 for the millionth time once again then seriously I would consider it impossible & accept it & never bother again, unless NC decide to make Lineage 3 but that's unlikely as all the core members left already...
