"Gay" not the only word disallowed in game names

In covering the RichardGaywood/theGAYERgamer Gamertag story, the Globe & Mail interviews a man with a controversial surname disallowed by Rock Band.

From the story:

"...So, regardless of the intent behind a Gamertag that includes a sexual term, Microsoft's policy is to disallow it, not only because the Gamertag system offers no means to communicate context, but also because, regardless of meaning, it could be viewed by younger players.

It might be a little overprotective, but it seems like a (more or less) fair policy to me. Then again, I don't have a name that could be misinterpreted as a sexual term.

So I spoke with someone who did. A Toronto man with the surname Cummer (he asked that I omit his given name) recently experienced a similar kind of discrimination when the popular music game Rock Band refused to register the name he and his sibling wanted to use for his band, "The Cummer Brothers." He received an in-game message telling him the name "is not what most would describe as classy."

"I wasn't offended," said Mr. Cummer. "I understand the reasoning. I wasn't trying to be offensive, but there are people more sensitive and much younger than I who are on Xbox Live. I think it's reasonable.""

Also, for some strange reason, the word "wit" is not allowed in my motto. I was allowed to use "f*ck" (with a u instead of *) in my bio. I was banned for it, but it still allowed me to use it. "Wit" though, nope that isn't allowed at all for some reason. :-/

I am an employee of Microsoft from the future. Everyone on X-Box Live was named JohnSmith until it turned out that was also a euphemism for gay.

So then we they had to use shapes for names. But it turned out all shapes look suspiciously like a penis in some way so I had to scrap the whole X-Box Live thing.
