Why Mario Kart 8 Doesn't Let Players Design Tracks

Allowing gamers to create their own courses is an idea that intrigues Mario Kart 8 producer Hideki Konno, but the difficulty involved in doing so is the main reason that functionality remains only an idea for the future.

kirbyu4102d ago

I'm not sure if I want to buy Mario Kart 8 or not, but if it had this feature, I'd buy it in an instant.

Starbucks_Fan4102d ago

You'd be crazy to not get this regardless!

iliimaster4102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

cant wait for this game !

MeteorPanda4102d ago

Genuinely curious, does anyone see Nintendo stepping out of their comfort zone anytime soon? if LBP can do it and mod racers can..then...this is no excuse really other then them not wanting to go the extra mile

DanManDantheMan4102d ago

Pretty sure every console since the GameCube was Nintendo "stepping out of their comfort zone"

MeteorPanda4101d ago

consoles yes. they are awesome at that..but the games, l'm talking about their games here. l've got mario kart 4-7 and owned a few older ones before my n64 cracked... l can't see myself buying this one. it looks too much like 7 o justify a 70 dollar purchase.

and this sites bubble system is annoying.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory4102d ago

uh LBP Karting didn't have great level design

elhebbo164102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

LBP and Modnation Racer are build around the Idea of creating stuff Mario Kart isn't. If you don't like that it doesn't have a track maker, oh well, the game will still sell millions and many people will still enjoy it. Personally I much rather have 10-30 unique tracks than 500,000 generic copy paste tracks with a few exceptions here and there. Not to mention how unless you have friends willing to play a player-created track chances are you are not going to find nobody in a server or hosting. Most of them are playing the tracks that came with the game (I say this with my experience with LBP racing).

Fanboyssuck274101d ago

Whether they do or not, there will still be haters like you trying to downplay everything Nintendo do.
So Nintendo is just doing what Nintendo does best which is ignoring the haters and making quality games.

MeteorPanda4101d ago

l'm not the only one that feels as if Nintendo are falling short somewhere, l don't want to talk to someone with your name, clearly you're a troll

and on the other post you commented on...you said this "Mario kart 8 is gonna sell a lot of Wii u consoles, I know u all fear this" <-- this is an indication that there's something that could effect them. l asked how does a game release effect the ps4/xbone

....you can't read and evaluate what people are saying, downvote them and just start going on a tangent about fanboyism as if that mattered at all. Ever.

Modnation Racers isan amazing kart game, gameplay wise, but its awful loading times (even after patches) completely killed it for me. And I suspect the loading tools had something to do with it.

Maybe this is one of the reasons Nintendo didn't want to include this on MK8?

3-4-54101d ago

LBP & MOD Nation racers are half the game that Mario Kart is.

I just bought a vita and tried both and was extremely disappointed.

I LOVE creating things in video games. I take HOURS to create my guy/player/team and such in games, so it would be welcome.

But People are complaining about a feature that was never intended to be in the game anyways.

* There are 4-5 of THESE things in EVERY GAME, that people COULD complain about.

They are "Made up" / " What if" complaints.

* Why didn't _______________________ Game have ______ ?

^ Works for any game but it's not a smart thing to do.

deafdani4100d ago (Edited 4100d ago )

For me, Modnation Racers on PS3 is the best kart game I've ever played, gameplay wise. Yes, even better than any Mario Kart.

The problem was that it had the worst loading times I've ever seen. So atrocious that I got tired of it and abandoned the game. That fact alone made me return to Mario Kart Wii, which wasn't as good, but had decent load times, which makes all the difference in the world.

Sony really fucked up big time by trying to replace Modnation with LBP Karting instead of making a sequel with decent load times. Modnation had so much potential. I'm sad. :(

It would have been a great feature considering it would be perfect for the gamepad but regardless the game is looking awesome and i can't wait to get my hands on it.

Dunban674102d ago

They don t want to spend the extra money

Thier excuse for not doing it is that the consumer/ gamer could not o a good enough job because it is hard? Are they kidding

elhebbo164102d ago

If you dont like dont buy it, just wait for the next Modnation racer or LBP racing game.... if Sony ever releases one.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake440d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The Next Mario Kart Desperately Needs A Good Gimmick

Mario Kart 8 has been out for nine years now if you include the Wii U version. Despite the Switch port continuing to sell insane numbers since it came out in 2017, many people believed that a new installment was way past due. When the Booster Course Pass was announced instead, it was a bit controversial, with one side of people stating that it was time for a new game, and the other side believing that this was the best course of action and that there's nothing else Nintendo can do to innovate the franchise.

There's nothing wrong with the games, but after most of them being very samey, I got a bit bored. I liked MKDS because it added a mission mode, yeah it didn't have maybe as many as I'd like but it was decent for variety.

I really prefer the new Mario Party for the different types of games in it.

Mario Kart doesn't really feel fresh because you know what to expect for every new game pretty much. The single player mode of DKR was far more in depth a game vs Mario Kart IMO, MK is probably better for multiplayer though.

-Foxtrot738d ago

It needs a campaign mode like Crash Team Racing with open hubs, driving around the Mushroom Kingdom, selecting your races and the like. Have a system like the CTR tokens within the races that then unlock secret racing cups later on or the time relics to unlock other things.

There's nothing wrong with the games but when you've had the same set up for so many games it just gets a bit samey after a while.

They could even have something like a track creator like Modnation Racers or something.

Neonridr738d ago

I always enjoyed the single player aspect of Diddy Kong Racing myself.

Knushwood Butt738d ago

After starting with the first game on SNES, I think the last one I bought was on the DS.

Phlacky737d ago (Edited 737d ago )

I think the next gimmick should be interactive tracks with obstacles and traps such as maybe throwing a shell ahead to make something fall on another player Also have water and mud parts that effect handling more also fire parts that can cause you to over heat if you stay in it to long etc...

Yi-Long737d ago (Edited 737d ago )

I don’t think it needs ‘a gimmick’ so much, because gameplay is pretty much perfect right now, but I would like the next Mario Kart to do either a ‘track-builder’ thing, so you just get access to the tools and make your own tracks (think Modnation Racers or LBP Karting), and/or expand upon ‘Mario’ Kart and open it up to the rest of Nintendo IPs, and just do a ‘Nintendo Kart’, so we’d see more of Zelda, but also Starfox, Kirby, Metroid, Valkyria Chronicles*, etc.

* I know, technically not ‘Nintendo’.
