Why Does Everyone Suddenly Need to Skip Cut-Scenes?

Everyone is complaining about unskippable cut-scenes in FFX/X-2 HD and inFamous: Second Son. Is this simply due to an increased attention deficiency among gamers?

i never skip cut scenes in Infamous Second Son. it's fun to watch

brish4041d ago

I think cut scenes are fun to watch the first few times.

Being forced to watch a cut scene on every play through can be annoying.

Anthotis4041d ago

Indeed. What a terrible article, from an oblivious gamer.

BlackTar1874041d ago

You should not be forced to watch cutscenes after the first play through imo

Outside_ofthe_Box4041d ago

Yeah this article makes no sense. Nobody wants to watch the same cut-scene over and over and over again after each play through. It has nothing to do with them being too long or gamers being impatient with that fact they have no control over them or whatever else he was saying in the article.

Maybe the author only plays a game once and never touches it again after finishing, but he need to realize that a lot of people still play games more than once.

sonarus4041d ago

@Brish, I couldn't agree more

@Maximus Prime. The reason you don't skip cutscenes is because you can't. Trust me if you finish the game on good and evil you will skip cutscenes at some point. Unless offcourse you're just weird

Kryptix4041d ago

Having a choice is better than having none. If you think they're always cool to watch then don't press the skip button, but when you already know what happens & want to jump straight ahead to the gameplay...hit skip.

I don't mind not being able to skip the first time, but it should be an option the second time.

Bathyj4041d ago

Yeah, I only felt the urge to skip on my 3rd playthrough, but it would have been nice to have.

Slightly off topic, just got my first Platinum Trophy yesterday. :D First time I ever felt compelled to actually look at the trophy requirements and actively pursue them.

WildArmed4041d ago

Exactly. It's not sudden... 90% of the games allow you to skip cutscenes... it's been there, someone is quite oblivious.

I_am_Batman4041d ago

I like to watch the cutscenes even on multiple playthroughs however there should be an option to skip them for poeple that want to do so imo.

The only thing I hate is when devs put the cutscene right after the checkpoint before a boss battle without a skip option. When playing on the hardest difficulty I don't want to rewatch the same cutscene a dozen times.

Rimeskeem4041d ago

Good thing you only have to play through it twice

Kivespussi4041d ago

Not only in other playthroughs. But sometimes you have to quit during a mission (or quest etc.) And nothing is more annoying than having to watch a long cutscene again just because you couldn't finish the thing for the first time.

TheDivine4041d ago

I hate unskippable cutscenes in jrpgs. Especially the ten to twenty minute ones right before a boss that kicks the crap out of you repeatedly. That's why we need to be able to skip them. So we don't have to waste time rewatching it a dozen times.

Stuff like Infamous is a story game where it meshes with the gameplay. Why would you want to skip it. Yes you should be able to but why would you? It doesn't have long scenes or anything.

hay4040d ago

I think someone's new to the whole 'gaming' thing.

Conzul4040d ago

Yeah but SP uses the cutscenes as loading screens. Would you rather a blank loading screen? I wouldn't.

Love this game - just got my Plat. 3 infamous games, 3 Plats. Would have been 4 but Festival of Blood has no Platinum.

Blaze9294041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

simple...if i played and beat the game the first time, I might not want to sit through the scenes a second time. Lol attack a Sony game and this is a "suddenly" thing? Always been this way

Downtown boogey4041d ago

Exactly. I'm glad that someone had already pointed this out.

Outside_ofthe_Box4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

Okay... Nobody is "attacking" Infamous for not having the ability to skip cut-scenes... obviously the people that are complaining are those playing the game multiple times realizing that they are forced to watch cut-scenes over and over again.

And obviously this isn't a "suddenly" thing. The author is just delusional if you read the article. He goes on about how gamers are impatient and how "back in the day" games had 20 minute cut-scenes and how cut-scenes nowadays have only gotten shorter over time so people shouldn't be complaining. He doesn't realize that people just take issue with fact that they have to watch it again after playing the game once.

It's just him being oblivious, I don't know how you turned this into a "retaliation" thing.

Raf1k14041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

I understand that cutscenes can be used to mask the loading of new game assets in the background. If that's what is happening then allowing you to skip the cutscene will simply give you a loading screen.

I guess this would still be better as you could continue playing as soon as the loading is done instead of waiting longer for the cutscene to finish.

edit: To me, the old checkpoint system is more annoying. I'd much rather be able to save as many game saves as I want whenever I want like you used to be able to do in PC games as standard.

Bigpappy4041d ago

I find that there is so much more of this cult (sheep-like) mentality among many PlayStation fans. Any negative on any exclusive on that system is taken waaaay too personal, and bias or conspiracy are always the reason for the negative. This isn't the case will all PS fans obviously, but there are too many amongst them.

Cutscenes should be skippable when there is a boss or something that makes you replay a segment several times.

It just depends on the game and the situation, really.

Yi-Long4041d ago

Cut-scenes should ALWAYS be skippable. It should be up to the player to decide if he/she wants to sit through a cut-scene or not.

Yes, of course I also always watch them the first time I play a game, but even then the OPTION to skip them SHOULD be available.

The game doesn't know if I've already played the game somewhere else, or on another console, or watched the cut-scene online, or whatever. The option to skip should just be there.

Unskippable cut-scenes have been a 'irritation' in gaming for many MANY years now. There's absolutely no reason why such a thing still exists. Quality-control at a company should catch that before the game gets released, and now that the game is out, they should patch it.

SuperBlur4041d ago

i've given up on 100% max payne 3 , the pain to sit through upward to 5minute cutscenes.. never again !

Pozzle4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

"Cutscenes should be skippable when there is a boss or something that makes you replay a segment several times."

Especially if the cutscene before the boss battle is really long. It's silly having to sit through a 5+ minute scene multiple times. (I'm looking at you Yunalesca from FFX!)

purpleblau4041d ago

Well, if a game cut scene is made as nice as The Last of Us, I willnever skip it.

3-4-54041d ago

If it's your first time through I don't understand skipping a cut scene.

Don't you want to know more about the world your playing in and it's characters and their story ?

Shadonic4041d ago

dont know about FF but for infamous people just want to skip the cutscenes they've already seen in either NG + or their second playthrough.

SaturdayNightBeaver4041d ago

It takes only a tiny bit of common sense to understand, still people making articles about it, asking why do we need skip options lol , we are going "beyond".

T24041d ago

Of course we need skippable cutscenes, because believe me the story in your game (insert game here) is not nearly as riveting as you think it is.
Name a game and I've either skipped the cutscenes or swore at whoever created it... And I'll tell you another thing, no skip means no second playthrough

Snookies124041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

Well, sometimes it's nice when going through a game you've gone through multiple times... I went through God of War 3 twice in one day for trophies. I'd already beaten it once before that, so the cutscenes were really grating on my nerves badly... Most games should have a skip option for cutscenes, provided you've already seen them at least once beforehand (i.e., beating the game). That's not such a hard feature to implement.

-Foxtrot4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

Oh I don't know maybe it's because on their second/third playthrough they don't want to keep watching something they've already seen

Jeez....Second Son is a good game but why is it everytime you criticize it people come rushing to it's rescue. It has faults and in my opinion it's not as good as the second game. It feels like it's lacking in content compare to inFAMOUS 2, the side missions are all the same, the evil path dosen't make sense (killing people for no reason with Fetch), getting powers are main missions not side missions, short story length, no good plot twists, no mission maker I could go on. I mean the main thing it does better then the first two is the graphics but everyone seems they want to make out like it's better in every way when it's not.

Shane Kim4041d ago ShowReplies(3)
thejigisup4041d ago

Killing people for no reason? The reason is super powers. Of you had sort parts don't tell me you wouldn't be tempted. O and fetch... she's a recovering junkie looking for revenge

malokevi4041d ago

Suddenly? I have always skipped cut scenes, in every game. If you aren't interested in the story elements, it's nice to be able to skip over all the annoying BS. I don't see why that's so hard to understand.

ziggurcat4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

why would you play a game, and not be interested in the story elements?

edit: to disagrees - it's a question, not a criticism, so no need to start flailing that finger on the disagree button.

diehardmetallicafan4041d ago

the answer is probably trophies. im playing through darksiders atm for another plat and the story is pretty boring. thank god for skipping those cutscenes

Fez4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

It could be the gameplay is really good but the story is generic or just rubbish... I think we've all played and completed games like that.

DMC could be an example of that. Story is very generic with kind of annoying and overdone characters. You could probably skip those cutscenes and still have a pretty good idea of what is going on. Gameplay is amazing as well so you'd want to skip the rubbish and get on with the fun.

malokevi4041d ago

I'm spoiled by books and movies. Pseudo-military BS doesn't interest me. Half-baked sic-fi hasn't interested me since Halo CE. I play videogames for the gameplay. I couldn't care less what happens between gameplay segments.

Probably why I gravitate more towards multiplayer/coop games. But, when I do play a campaign, I like having the option to cut through the BS.

Tempest3174041d ago

I'm playing dynasty warriors 8 ps4 atm, and I'm totally skipping the cutscenes...there are just some games that story doesnt matter to me (not very many) but on those games Im very glad to have the option to skip.

They really need to

Go off the evil ending off Second Son

Delsin absorbs all those powers

Revealed he’s the real Beast and John in Infamous 2 was just an anomaly created by timelines being messed with by Kessler.

Cole vs the Real Beast

gold_drake281d ago

quite honestly, i dont remember a whole lot about 2 amymore, but i absolutely hated the guy in second son haha.

chicken_in_the_corn280d ago

It would make more sense to go off the evil ending of 2 and the good ending g of SS where Cole is The Beast.

Cacabunga279d ago

Doesnt make any sense calling second son 2 as infamous 3..

OtterX280d ago

Ha, yea Delsin was obnoxious.

I wouldn't mind another new character, but somehow bring Cole into the story.

We can just pretend like Delsin never existed. :)

thejigisup280d ago

Everyone that age is obnoxious. It's been years and is like to think delsin has grown

neutralgamer1992280d ago

Until we wait for a potential new entry it would awesome to have infamous collection for PS5

RaidenBlack280d ago

Umm ... how about this?
First we get the Tushima sequel(coz its most rumored)
Then a new Resistance (need new PS SP FPS)
Then a totally new IP (new IPs are always interesting)
And then a new inFamous?

Pepsi_Man3000280d ago

resistance is insomniac I think

xHeavYx280d ago

Can we also get a complete remaster of InFamous 1 and 2?

fr0sty279d ago

Gimme a new Warhawk and MAG while we're at it.

DivineHand125280d ago

I had a great time with the second son. Never got to play the originals and hope they get remastered one day.

DazaMc280d ago

The graphics were amazing, I got the platinum on that one. Very good.

ChasterMies280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

If I had a choice between another Infamous game and another Spider-Man game, I choose Spider-Man. Sony should spend its resources on its winners.

Tacoboto280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

Infamous was such a winner its studio was given the freedom (after 3 titles + their expansions) to do a new IP with GoT, just like with Sly Cooper before infamous.

I'd welcome a 4th title even more than another Spider-Man, it'd be exciting what they could do with new powers fit for the hardware outside the limits of a licensed superhero game.

jznrpg279d ago

Spider-Man is guaranteed and is made by Insomniac so why not both as Sucker Punch would make Infamous.

How Does inFAMOUS Second Son Hold up 10 Years Later?

inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM469d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck469d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati468d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

jznrpg279d ago

@OmegaSoldati I’ve had a few of the highest end PC’s and they’re cool for about a year then they aren’t the highest end PC anymore and not as cool. It’s way overrated imo.

Profchaos469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion
