Winky Wright dances around the ring, throwing punches at Lennox Lewis as Sugar Ray Leonard barks instructions from behind, but nobody's watching. Instead, the room of 100 journalists stares transfixed at the image of a polygonal "Iron" Mike Tyson being projected on a wall. As Winky moves, so does Mike, the former light middleweight champ doing his best to impersonate the ferocity of a young Tyson (while trying to maintain his dignity in the spandex mo-cap suit).
Forget the face-tattooed, ear-biting, fresh-out-of-jail Mike. When Tyson makes his return to video games in Fight Night Round 4, it's the return of the hungry, mean, KO machine that made Mike Tyson the baddest man on the planet.
Peek-a-boo. Uppercut. Knockout. Mike is back.
"The thing about Mike," explains former heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis, "is that he could throw some real quick combinations, and when he throws those combinations, he wants to take off your head. People usually tuned in just to see how fast he would knock someone out."
Fight Night Round 4 swings its final punch, as online servers will be taken down next year according to a press release from EA.
Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?
Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.
cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird
Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.
DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s members ‘Andreaa’, “airGaming”, “reznoire” and “John GodGames Emus” have shared some videos showing Fight Night Round 4, Uncharted, MotorStorm, Dante’s Inferno, Sonic 4 and Resistance 2 running on the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3."
Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
Fight Night Champion was an abomination - but man, I'd love to see a new gen Fight Night game.
Fight Night Round 3 was the first next-gen game I got on my PS3, it was okay I guess. Hope this time the loading times arent as bad as the third.
My favourite EA game. Actually only 1 of 2 EA games i buy. FIFA being the other. I hope they put David Tua back in.
Don't forget about Skate.
Fight Night 3 was more than enjoyable in multiplayer against friends.

Fight Night is the one of the only games EA has gotten right....hopfully they continue the trend
