Firefox 3 On Track To Be Speediest Browser

Now that Mozilla's locked down Firefox 3's final feature set with Friday's push of release candidate 1, it's official: while Firefox 3 boasts some great new features like a smart address bar and better bookmarks manager, the best reason to upgrade will be for the performance improvements. Firefox 3 is noticeably faster and more stable than Firefox 2 to the casual user and Mozilla engineers have numbers that show it will be the fastest browser on the market.

I've switched and trust me I am locked to FireFox now.
The memory usage is at an all time low and it really is fast.

don't know. I am waiting for the final version of FireFox 3 to be release in the coming months.

Why the disagree, people? It's really unsafe in comparison to Explorer and Safari.

Don't get me wrong, Firefox beats those out on all other fronts though, it's just a concern I have that they haven't seemed to address yet.

I'll upgrade from 2 as soon as all the plugins work. Looking at internet ads is almost as dumb as watching TV commercials.

I've tried Opera and Safari and neither sprints as fast as FF3 RC1. I sometimes use Opera on account it has a unique start up menu; it allows you to access favorite websites on the fly. I wish Firefox was more compatible...I don't want to use IE ever again. Damn you Windows update.

Using Firefox 3 RC1 i have noticed an amazing change in the compatibility of extensions and the overall speed of the browser, the memory footprint of firefox 3 compared to firefox 2 is almost 10x smaller. I think this will be firefox's first real competition to IE in terms of quality and speed.

Opera is faster, uses less resources and has many features as standard that firefox does not (mouse gestures, speed Dial)

have you ever heard about the plugins for firefox??? You at least get mouse gestures in seconds if you want... Don´t know if theres a possibilty for speed dial.

RC1 is WAAAAAAY faster than FF2.X. The only problem right now is waiting for attachments. I don't think google has released their browser sync yet, and I don't feel like manually inputing hundreds of benchmarks (not to mention delicious hasn't updated their extensions yet), so I'm actually using both FF2 and RC1 right now. It drives my wife nuts having so many browsers.

I downloaded RC1, and couldn't even visit IGN.com. The browser would just crash. The speed and memory footprint was vastly improved, but I hope they fix that.

Good to hear but after tuning Firefox 2.0 and using Fasterfox along with other add ons I still prefer it to Safari, but Safari is still really good to use. Can't wait for this and SP3 for XP.

I was on IE8 for a while there because of the Firefox memory leak, but RC1 solves it so firefox ftw as of now.
