Reaction: Price Is the Reality That Threatens to Pull Project Morpheus Out of the Matrix

Push Square: "Sony was in a jubilant mood at the Game Developers Conference once again last night. The platform holder is starting to really enjoy the industry focused convention, having spent the previous show flaunting its newfound indie focus. This year’s event was always going to be all about virtual reality, though, and Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida couldn’t resist cracking a joke about the trail of leaks that led to last night’s Project Morpheus unveiling. “Thank you for coming to this cryptic Sony presentation,” he jokingly prefaced the presentation. “You have no idea what we’re going to talk about.”"

Yeah, this is the only obstacle I see in the devices way other than third-party support. $100-$150 is the optimal price point for this. But looking at it, it seems more expensive than that. If it releases at anything over $150, I'm afraid that it's going to be priced out of most people's comfort zone. And it may become another casualty in the world of first party add on devices.

I'm interested in seeing where this tech goes and if it will be viable for a long-term gaming solution, or just another sideshow that starts strong and ends before it even really began.

Don't care how much it costs. If it has the NASA integration of being able to virtually walk around Mars or the moon - I'm buying it.

Sony is really impressing with their gaming products this gen. The ps4 is great, the controller is vastly improved, the 7.1 capable wireless headset can't be beat for $100, and now this headset? E3 is going to be phenomenal!!

"$199.99. After all, the PlayStation Camera alone currently retails for $59.99 – throw in a controller and a chunky piece of machinery with a 1080p display, and that cost is certain to rise."

Considering a $350 Oculuc Rift was just announced, I think your priorities for concern just got skewed...

Morpheus:$250-$300+$60 Camera=$310-$360
Oculus Rift:$350(better specs)
Both are $300+ which I expected.
