PlayStation 4 VR to be Compatible with Online and Local Multiplayer

VRFocus - Sony has confirmed that its newly-announced Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset will feature support for both online and local multiplayer titles.

I love how all the skeptics where saying the ps4 is not powerful enough to handle VR. VR is basically a trackable display.

Majin-vegeta4113d ago

The thing is this was built from the ground up for the PS4 haters eating crow now ;)

Clover9044113d ago (Edited 4113d ago )

Nope, there is more to it than that. High refresh rate, larger viewing area, stereoscopic 3d, head and body tracking... Much more than a tv strapped to your face.

In any case, I think it's great that Sony is stepping into the VR arena. It only means that VR will be adopted by the masses that much faster.

Pillsbury14113d ago

I said basically, obviously there is more to it than that. Sony engineers are geniuses.

Eonjay4113d ago

Whats even more impressive is the sound simulation they spoke about. The 60 speaker surround sound studio they showed off was epic. I need to be in that room lol.

Also, I don't think anyone ever said VR wouldn't work on the PS4. At least I didn't. What we said is that we won't be playing the graphically intense AAA titles in VR on the PS4 since those games generally merely run at 30fps. Those games will either have to have special "VR modes" with significantly downgraded graphics or they simply won't be available in VR at all.

ThatOneGuyThere4113d ago

the dumbasses at occulus said vr couldnt work on this generation of consoles.

People said being able to have vr at the level of gfx we use to. OR is working on a display higher than 1080p. And you need to have the min of 60fps. Y'all kinda of selective of what y'all want to hear. People are saying theres a change the gfx for console game will have to be lowered to reach 1080p @60fps like what is going on now. Like clover said its more that then just strapping a screen on your head, and OR did a bulk of the work for them so you can't really say Sony are geniuses. I'm sure they'll figure something out tho.

And here's a OR game to get what the perspective of what people are excite about. Not that you Dont have a reason to be too. And its nothing wrong with lower gfx settings to play some people do it all the time.

Just one of the many OR focused games . The forest.

One question that comes to mind while watching the forest: when games get to be too real and immersive will we start to see more cases of PTSD from games? When you blur the line of reality and the virtual there will be more questions that need to be looked at.

webeblazing4113d ago

Lol PTSD . I didn't mean to laugh but that's on of the things I was thinking with all the horror games that making a come back. And with vr people are going to have nightmare or worst get scare and break something . I sure Sony studios will find the perfect new game to take advantage of vr. I can see QD and ND taking advantage of it the most. But giving how QD always want to bridge the gap between the player in a storytelling experience I think they're gonna do the most.

I think the way we played games was too limit for QD. Look a heavy rain , now imagine it in VR. They most likely would of made it even better than it was great game.

Sorry rambled on, not sure about your question though. One thing I do know when I get one of these VR headsets im not gonna be sober.

I just want to know if it will be compatible with the PC.

Id love to see what sort of WiiU type assymetrical gameplay we could see from this. I Can imagine it being an even bigger blast than couch multiplayer on the WiiU already is.

I cant wait to play FFXIV or ESO with this!

Jus curious how much the 90degree viewing angle will look or will it be like looking at a big screen tv jus wondering

Higher field of view puts the camera further back, allowing you to see much more of your surroundings. 90-92 degrees is usually the preferred field of view for 1080p. Console games are usually between 55 to 65 degrees.

Eonjay4113d ago (Edited 4113d ago )

The human eye has a viewing angle of about 45 to 55 degrees each (about 90 to 110 total). The display will basically cover your entire viewable surface area. Thats the maximum utility you can get out of a display before the image is too large to be fully seen. The display, similar to the Rift will maximize what you can see in any direction at a given instance. In addition, it has full 360 tracking. This produces a full immersion effect because the display is everywhere your eyes can go.

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
