GamingLives takes a look at the Steampunk-inspired action RPG from Snowed In, featuring mining, sky whales, and a decent dose of combat.
"The lack of visual quality and the numerous bugs result in a game that should be fun, but is so poorly delivered it’s just frustrating mess. At a fundamental level if you screw up in a Minecraft-style game you just restart, or start a new world, but in WindForge you are pushed forward by a storyline and you end up losing hours of your time due to an iffy auto save feature. The number of times I’ve had to load up a save because something strange has happened, such as dying randomly while hooked to the edge of a building, or my airship exploding for no apparent reason, is ridiculous. WindForge is a game I wanted to love, but in its current state couldn’t possibly recommend."
Hardcore Gamer: The pay what you want tier features Windforge, Stacking, ReignMaker, Paranautical Activity (in early access), and a closed beta key for Strife.
GameGrin's Matt Girdler writes: "I’ll preface this review by saying that before playing Windforge my experience with the 2D sandbox genre consisted of a whopping 37 minutes stumbling around in Terraria, not really understanding the point of the game. However, having spent around 10 hours with Windforge, I can say that I now certainly understand the appeal of the genre, even if this RPG-infused title is lacking in many departments."
Gale writes - "I’ve been excited about Windforge ever since I saw a gameplay trailer last year, with the player building his own airship, hunting flying whales (!) and skirmishing against steampunk pirates. It looked as if it’s going to blow every other similar game out of the water once it comes out. Except maybe Starbound, but that’s a whole different story. Windforge promised to take everything this sub-genre has to offer, and crank it up to eleven. As it turns out, the devs have seemingly bitten off more than they could chew."
