Fatal frame is probably my favorite horror series. Some titles are better than others but the 4 main series games and the remake are all excellent games, and it remains the only classic horror franchise that has absolutely stuck to its guns and adamantly refused to sell out like RE and SH. I look forward to seeing the game in HD, on whatever platform (i think we can all agree that this game is definitely ideal on the Wii U though).

Neonridr4074d ago

Well Nintendo bought the rights to co-own the Fatal Frame franchise, so if we are going to see another game in this series, it is most definitely going to be on a Nintendo platform. The Wii U gamepad is almost too perfect for a new game in the series. I have no clue why they haven't jumped on that idea already.

Concertoine4074d ago

Its still fuzzy as to what Nintendo actually owns, we know they have total rights over Spirit Camera but thats all we really know for sure.
The games have surprisingly sold better on nintendo platforms (comparing FFIV's japan sales to the other games' japan sales). Who knows, maybe they're working on FFV right now.

They purchased the rights over Spirit Camera but also co-own the entire franchise now.

I loved Fatal Frame 4 and the Fatal Frame 2 remake on Wii. Yes, I modded my Wii, but no I didn't pirate the games. I bought Fatal Frame 4 during one of my Japan visits, and I imported the other. Worth every penny!

Yui_Suzumiya4074d ago

Wish those would've come to North America :(

zerocrossing4074d ago (Edited 4074d ago )

I also bought Fatal Frame 4 during one of my visits to Japan, but then later found out I'd have to mod my Wii in order to play it...

It's a huge shame Nintendo never released it outside of Japan, it's a great game that I'm sure would have sold well in the west.

WeAreLegion4074d ago

If they own the publishing rights, what the FRICK are they doing with it?!? I want another Fatal Frame right now!

Concertoine4074d ago

QUESTION:
Assuming you have an american wii, how do you play FF2 Wii Edition (a European copy)? With 4 you could use riivolution since it had a patch but from what i understand riivolution doesnt work with just any game?
Thanks in advance.

LoaMcLoa4074d ago

There are many homebrew apps that remove the region lock, such as Gecko.

I've been using it for years, works great!

stragomccloud4074d ago

As has already been said, use gecko, or any other number of apps. You'll only need riivolution if you want to replace the English audio with Japanese audio, which I've also done using a European copy. If you want a link to the patches and a video explaining how do do it, I'll happily help.

Concertoine4074d ago

+Helpful to both of you.
That's okay, im fine with the english dub.
Im assuming the apps would work just as well if your wii is 4.3U?

stragomccloud4074d ago

They absolutely do. As long as you already have the homebrew channel installed. You should be able to download Gecko OS or Neogamma loader strait through the homebrew browser.

The only good silent Hills are 1-4 anything after that went downhill, but I agree with most of the list, except for Metro that wasn't that scary neither was Fear.

MadLad4074d ago

I agree that neither FEAR nor Metro was were scarey. There is a fright or two to be had, and both featured an extremely oppressive atmosphere, but they certainly aren't horror games.
As for Silent Hill, I actually quite liked Downpour. Homecoming was pretty damn bad, but I honestly did enjoy Downpour. Still consider Silent 4 the best of the bunch, personally.

LoaMcLoa4074d ago

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is great. It's a shame that so few people know about it.

ElementX4074d ago

Condemned: Criminal Origin was scary! That level in the old department store with the mannequins was creepy as hell!

MadLad4074d ago

Condemned holds as possibly my favorite horror game of last generation. It's too bad they went so of-course with the sequel, though even that was a pretty good game overall and certainly had some great moments (Cabin anyone?).

Concertoine4074d ago

Good grief it felt like i was watching an episode of DBZ with the sequel.
The first game managed to be top dog in terms of horror games for pretty much all of last gen though.

Neonridr4074d ago

and the infamous locker scene..

GamerDad19874074d ago

Yeah I was just about to say that game. Still scares the hell outta me. I hope this next-gen can top that horror level. Outlast has done a good job so far but I can't wait to see what else is out there.

NihonjinChick4074d ago

The only game on that list I've played is Silent Hill. I always thought the first three were scary, but the games after that were lacking.

One horror series I like is Clock Tower.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

Knightofelemia137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken137d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn136d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb136d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

DefenderOfDoom2136d ago

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno136d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex136d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

Interview with Keiichiro Toyama (creator of Silent Hill, Siren, and Gravity Rush)

In a career spanning interview, I speak to the creator of the Silent Hill, Siren, and Gravity Rush franchises about his 30 year time within the industry, what his thoughts are in making the transition from working for a AAA publisher to essentially becoming an independent, whether he’d be open to working on new iterations of the franchises that he’s renowned for, whether he’d be open to collaborating with any of the horror greats in the games industry, and what his long-term goals are for the next 30 years… Enjoy!

Interesting read, although the questions should have been more focused, and I think Gravity Rush, at least the first one, is fairly dark. Never got into the sequel.

DarXyde201d ago

I loved both games. There are pervasive themes of darkness worked in, but they're very vibrant games and Kat (history withstanding) is a very light-hearted character in a world that has its dark moments, but it's very generally upbeat, especially in comparison to Siren and Silent Hill.

isarai201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

Wait, dude made all 3? Wtf? Dude has a knack for cult classics like damn

DarXyde201d ago

"So most of the games that I’ve worked on have been new IPs, even though I’ve made different franchises and stuff. But I want to note that every time I make a new IP, my resources are pretty limited, and they’re limited by the company that I’ve worked for. So in that sense, Silent Hill, Siren, and the first Gravity Rush game, I think that we were striving to achieve something new, as opposed to making a big budget videogame. So I feel the need to do that every 3, 4, or 5 years. And I keep making new games, so going individual, like going indie right now, for me, I don’t really feel limited, I feel that it suits me more. So it feels like I’ve got an advantage, because I know how to work with limited resources."

That's encouraging. I really hope Sony would approach Toyama-san for a Gravity Rush sequel.
