Next-Gen Face-Off: The Lego Movie Videogame

With the arrival of Lego Marvel Super Heroes on PS4 and Xbox One, Traveller's Tales decided to forgo the slick, low-latency 60fps set-up of the early PS2 games in favour of a less demanding 30fps update, using the saved GPU cycles to dramatically ramp up the level of effects work. Released just a few months later, it's not particularly surprisingly to see that The Lego Movie doesn't deviate from the course set out by the previous game, and is built upon the same core rendering foundations - lighting, shaders and post-process effects all take precedence over running at high frame-rates. As we've seen before, the results are spectacular, delivering a cinematic feel to the proceedings that enhance the more exciting moments throughout the game.

Looks like more and more developers are getting a grip on developing for the X1, the list of 1080p native games has really started growing (15 by my count with 5 more around 900p, not including downloads and indie)

MasterCornholio2301d ago (Edited 2301d ago )

Doesnt look like a next gen game though compared to this.

P.S Infamous runs in 1080P.

Funky Town_TX2301d ago

You are comparing infamous to a lego game, WTF.

MasterCornholio2301d ago (Edited 2301d ago )

Well saying that a simple Lego game is an example of how the Xbox can handle 1080P is stupid because like you said its a Lego game which are never known to have amazing graphics.

"Looks like more and more developers are getting a grip on developing for the X1, "

It's Lego, not exactly the most demanding games in the world.....and there's already a Lego game out for X1 that is 1080p, did they not "have a grip" then?

And are you seriously keeping count of how many 1080p games the X1 has? SERIOUSLY?

Every time you open your mouth you show your ignorance. The PS3 can run games in 1080p 30-60fps Gran Turismo 6 is in 1080p on PS3. 1080p render native depend on the game engine And hardware. The less complex Or less demanding the game engines run the less take or resources are needed for the GPU and CPU . The Lego games are not graphically intense type of games they're cartoon Graphics not photo realistic . There is no motion capture or facial capture in Lego games. The game textures are quite simple also. The x1 has a weak GPU and slow memory but Worse the small amount of Esram creates bottlenecks in the memory. The source engine is 10 years old and the quake 3 Engine is 15 year old the x1 can't handle either in 1080p both are in 720p. The My problem with the x1 and the PS4 too a much lesser degree Is that if games are having problems running in 1080p on late generation engine . What will happen with the new next-gen more advanced and complexes game engines a ride arrived.

Game isn't even worth a comparison. It's not technically demanding at all.

MasterCornholio2301d ago

Yep it reminds me of seeing fanboys use Rayman Legends as proof that the XBOX One can handle demanding next gen games at 1080P.
