Why the PS4's Slipping Sales in Japan Is Nothing to Worry About

8CN: It's no secret that the Wii U hasn't exactly been doing that well, sales-wise, both in America and its native country of Japan. Meanwhile, the Playstation 4 has been selling like crazy here in America, although it only recently launched in Japan and it's numbers there have actually been worse than the Wii U's. But does this spell disaster for Sony's console?

The story is too old to be commented.

because they are out of stock and have to get more shipment in. and by the time it comes back in stock again sold out again. and its hard to find a ps4 hopefully sony will rectify it and hopefully they can keep up with demand .

wonderfulmonkeyman1769d ago

I've seen some people native to Japan saying that they're on shelves right now. Everywhere.

Hard to decide what to believe until some actual proof crops up.

Tapioca Cold1769d ago

I live in Korea and PS4's are easily available. The East does not spend like the West. Asians don't have that need-it-now attitude.

Also, why in the hell would anyone worry?

You know this whole console war was created by the games media to create jobs for themselves and have something to yap about. It's brutal to see how many of you just buy into this crap and go out of your way to belittle one another.

Do you really care that much? Whether SONY or Microsoft make billions of dollars in the next year?

wonderfulmonkeyman1769d ago

No, Tapioca, I honestly don't.
In fact, I wish them all the best.
I just like being properly informed.

in the country where i stay, India, there are PS4s on shelves. One particular reason could be it's freaking expensive - thanks to the indian rupee value. it costs around 40k indian rupees. the games costs around 4/5k indian rupees.

now that's a lot. i haven't picked up one because i'm still waiting for good number of games to come out on PS4. until then free games from PS+ for Vita and PS3 should help me pass time. and not to forget the Dark Souls 2.

Panthers1769d ago

Its not supply, its content. We have to wait till the big Japanese titles release which, unfortunately, are few and far between.

Muffins12231769d ago

Not just that...its also japan...there are not many Japanese games on it nor are consoles that popular there.

HomerDog1769d ago

cuz you live in Japan right

Akuma071769d ago

Nah it's not a supply issue.

It's just Japan isn't the console powerhouse it once was.

Who really cares? I mean why are people causing so much trouble about this, personally I don't care what Japan sells, because the PS4 is dominating EVERY region in the world.

Milruka1769d ago

I live in Japan bud..They are not out of stock, they are not selling because they have no games that Japanese are interested in.

heck I'll take pictures while I'm at Yodabashi Camera in Yokohama tonight even.

The PS4 was only recently released in Japan! It's a bit early to be saying whether or not the sales are on a downward slope, let alone whether they spell disaster for Sony. Give it a few months first.

memots1769d ago (Edited 1769d ago )

slipping after what 2 weeks over there ? lol

Its a little early to start trending, I think its again grasping at straw once more.

memots1769d ago

wooaa the multi account are going strong. Looks at all those disagree on everyones comments lol

HomerDog1769d ago

and yet Sony guys keep saying xbox one is doomed. make up your minds already.

Tedakin1769d ago

But xbox has one bad month, January, and everyone is all doom and gloom.

zeuanimals1769d ago

Needs some games. KH3 and FFXV should help it out. ATLUS needs to bring Persona 5 to the PS4.

imXify1769d ago

Because WiiU was out during the holidays, not the PS4. Of course it's more tempting to buy for christmas.

Hicken1769d ago

Using that sort of common sense argument is the sign of a fanboy! /s

marloc_x1769d ago (Edited 1769d ago )

Christmas is not a national holiday in Japan, nor does the country have a large Christian population. What else ya got?

imXify1769d ago

I know, but the Wii still got quite a boost in Japan last holiday.

OrangePowerz1769d ago (Edited 1769d ago )

It's not as huge as in the west, but it is incorrect to say that they ignore christmas. The christmas time is rather popular in Japan. It's more of a romantic time in Japan to go out with your girlfirend or boyfriend compared to how we celebrate it here in the west. It resembles more valentines day in regards to what the Japanese people do on Christmas.

Hicken1769d ago

People DO pick up extra money around Christmas. As Orange says, it's mostly a romantic holiday, but kids do still get presents, and plenty of folks pick up an odd job here or there for cash to buy things. And right around the new year, there's often a bit of money from family that kids get, too(not just children, but on up to high and even college).

It's nowhere near the commercial juggernaut that it is here in the West, but it's probably still the biggest spending time in Japan, or close to it.

dcbronco1769d ago (Edited 1769d ago )

Some Japanese definitely give gifts on Christmas.

It's a new console and there is always a drop after the early adopters. Some of these sites need to find some real things to write about.

N4g_null1768d ago

So by the fanboys logic the ps4 should have launched in japan also during x mas. So I guess sony messed up then? I'm not sure the console wars even exist over there any more? Yet no games is no games!

Vita was out in Holidays and 3DS was February in 2011. So what your excuse. Nintendo still did better for both system launch.

Unlike America. Young people in Japan can find jobs and earn money easily.

imXify1769d ago

The Vita is still holding very well in Japan unlike the U.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory1769d ago

Yeah two years after launch that is.
Wii U is already half of Vita install base in Japan and close to outselling it worldwide.

Olih141769d ago

It sold a bit better during Xmas because they just launched their bundle with Wii Party U and Super Mario Wii U, plus accessories for a nice price (got one for me and the kids).

Handhelds and, love it or hate it, mobile is where it's at in Japan. It's early to tell, but it won't be a surprise if PS4 won't match PS2 sales. It may outsell PS3 but we'll see.
