Porting C4 Engine To PS4 Was Smooth, Memory Allows Compute Shaders To Stream Data to GPU Faster

Sony's next gen console has been praised by both indie devs and big name publishers. Speaking to GamingBolt, founder, president and CTO of Terathon Software Eric Lengyel talked about how easy it was to port the C4 Engine from the PS3 to the PS4.

Well it looks like all of SONY's design choices paid off. Especially the GDDR5 ram. Looks like its gonna give SONY a big advantage this gen.

The C4 engine...

You are aware no one uses this engine, right? It was also available on the PS3 and no games came out using the C4 engine. Check the list of "games" using it when you get a chance.

I'm not talking about the engine so much as I am the praise that developers are showering the PS4 with for its excellent architecture. I haven't seen a single dev say a single bad thing about it.

The PS4 unified memory will be a big advantage to developers this gen

The amount of butthurt you have towards towards this company is pathetic.

They had the audacity to not get good communication from Microsoft and take issue with eSRAM and now you're going to try to discredit them in every article about the C4 engine. It's neither going to restore MS's indie near-monopoly or make their comments on eSRAM any less true, but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and huff and puff about them being nobodies every time they mirror something that's been said by dozens of developers already.

His comment still stands, a unified pool of 8gb gddr5 destroys ddr3 with esram. Backing the esram at this point would be like betting on a 3 legged horse to win a grand national. I personally would have preferred a closer hardware spec between the two consoles.

Pathetic would be crying one week that you aren't porting your non-used middleware and then the following week "considering" it. The C4 engine is not used. It's sad that anyone would brag that it is being ported. Clearly this has been done for publicity in the hopes someone will use the middleware. Why would I trust the statement by the "developer" when he is using sites like N4G for simply for the free advertising?

Ps4 is smoother than a newborn baby.

I'm loving my Xbox One, but I have to admit PS4 got it right with the unified memory and GDDR5 ram. The Xbox has the exclusives I want right now, PS4 will have the exclusives I want in a year or so. Time to save up!

JohnathanACE1681d ago

Yep its great to have both consoles. A store here in Canada is having a tax free day so I'll probably go there and pick up an Xbox One Titanfall bundle. It's gonna be a fun weekend!

What i wanna know is whats those extra chip sets for ? During a ps4 tear down they found 2 GB GDDR3 ram, the only thing i can think its for is the VR headset. The headset has to run 2 small monitors and thats got to be a liitle demanding.
