This month's EDGE scores include the first Yoshi review, which is heavily criticized by the magazine.
Ouch. They really didnt like Yoshi.
EDGE doesn't have any credibility. 4/10 = broken game that doesn't work. They obviously have no integrity, at the top (leadership).
If 4/10 means broken game, WTF does 1-3/10 mean?
I was afraid that the 3DS Yoshi's Island would disappoint. The DS one wasn't so hot either. Granted, EDGE gave that one a 6, so it might be more about EDGE, but I doubt they would give a game THAT low of a score if it didn't truly have major issues.
Edge's review is actually really good, in that it digs down into why the game fails in a fairly objective manner. They did the same with Lords of Shadow 2, which also got a 4 (although with that review, the best bits were exclusive to the print edition). In the Yoshi review, they criticise the complete lack of originality, the sluggish controls - both the movement and aiming of eggs, uninspired level design, poor use of 3D such as having the platform on a different plane to Yoshi so he looks like he's floating in mid air, and just stupid stuff - like how your eggs disappear as soon as they go off screen. So you fire at a line of coins, but it only collects the coins on screen, as soon as you move across, you can see it didn't collect the entire line.
"like how your eggs disappear as soon as they go off screen. So you fire at a line of coins, but it only collects the coins on screen, as soon as you move across, you can see it didn't collect the entire line" Geez, so they went with the "if it isn't being rendered on screen, it doesn't exist right now" approach, eh? That sucks.
Yikes, quite low BUT this is Edge we're reading here, so best to give it the benefit of doubt until most reviews give out their score and review.
Dont care still getting it
