Check out the review scores from this week's Famitsu, including Metal Gear Solid V, J-Stars Victory Vs., Game Center CX 3, and more
glad to see MGS getting a high score
It doesn't really indicate things. Famitsu "reviews" may look big, but they're essentially four separate people writing very simple summaries of their opinion and doling out an arbitrary score. You'll notice they gave Battlefield 4 (PS4) the same score--which as a 6.6/10 metascore and 3.5/5 Amazon average. If you'be been paying attention for any length of time, you'll also notice that Famitsu tends to give big developers a free pass, much like big Western outlets like IGN, Gamespot, etc. So, yeah: be glad to see that score all you want. Just know that it's a poor indicator of quality.
So I guess Mario Party must be awesome then.
Keep in mind that if they are just now reviewing bf4 its no longer the bugfest it was at release, hence why the meta score is so low. I do agree that they tend to score big releases higher however. It all boils down to the person for mgs, I doubt reviews will be accurate across the board (they never are but mgs will probably have a greater split than most games)
Yeah. Famitsu reviews are seriously 4 sentences long. If you submitted a 4-sentence review to N4G, it wouldn't get approved. And yet, since it's from the magical land of Japan, people foam at the mouth for Famitsu reviews.
Two things: 1. Agree with the point about Famitsu. Once upon a time, getting a really high score for them meant it was an awesome game. Now, they'll give 8's, 9's and 10 to several games that end up landing around 60 to 70 on Metacritic. 2. Metascore isn't the same as Metacritic's user score! Battlefield 4 scored 86 on PS4. The user scores on Metacritic are the least sensible indication of anything ever.
If that is the case than no review indicates anything, because a review is opinionated. I don't know about you guys, but I've been gaming long enough where I have a pretty good idea what is going to be considered a "good" game or a "bad" game
@knifefight Famitsu reviews aren't taken seriously just because they're from "the magical land of Japan." If so, we'd be foaming at the mouth over Dengeki or Ge-Maga. It's that Japan takes Famitsu very seriously, for better or worse. That assumption's like if Germany said IGN was only well-received because it's from the US - both of those publications have their glaring faults (mainly in that they pander to a particular audience), but they're not geographic-magically popular. They market themselves well and have been around for a while. Plus, because Famitsu's a big Japanese publication, often reviews of non-localized games will show up there far before the English localized reviews show up here. It's a glimpse, but they're just one small set of reviews, so yeah, grains of salt everywhere.
MoveTheGlow: Japan doesn't take Famitsu seriously at all. Observe: http://www.gamerevolution.c...
Your joking right....it's Famitsu, they give out good scores willy nilly You get brownie points if the game is Japanese.
oh foxtrot, i can tell your little heart wont be able to take another great review score after your whole hissy-fit protest ordeal. 'see you there! ;)
Famitsu cannot be trusted and they have admitted many yrs ago in an old interview that they will give certain games a higher score based on popularity ( or something similar to that).
hopefully this means the end of the xbox1 XD
Great score. I imagine Japanese publications are giving Battlefield 4 higher scores, since you can actually play it online now.
If you already own a PS4 just check out the streams or search Ustream for I am sure those UAE guys are showing it off. I was going to buy it anyway but after seeing it in action I can't wait for it's release on PSN It looks gorgeous and everything is interactive.
Yea saw it yesterday I was actually trying to tell people this. There was 2 streams of the game. It reminds me of Splinter Cell in an open world.
Splinter Cell only in regards as how the graphics of Splinter Cell looked compared to other games at the time. Yet as far as gameplay, I totally disagree.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4/PS3/360) – 10/9/9/10 Was wondering why Xbone wasn't in the list and then I remembered that it's not out in Japan yet.
lmaooo shot fired
I wouldn't say shots fired, I thought the exact same. I seriously didn't realize.
j stars and metal gear got great reviews cant wait for them to release
most games have more than 36/40.....famitsu today is not like old days.
Looking at your display pic, Cranky Kong, I'm not sure if you're being facetious, but I wholeheartedly agree. I miss the days when gaming wasn't so big a business that publishers didnt have the pocket change to buy reviews. Not saying MGS is like that, one of my favorite series... but if every game is A quality then none are.
its nto that, its just that no one really knows how to rate games. Not in a way they are giving bad reviews. But in a way that actually explaines what 7/10 means, or 3/10. If I say a game was average, then does that mean it gets a 5/10. Probably not, most of them would give it a 6 or 7/10. most people are not using the 1-5/10 and just rating games from 6-10/10. not saying they are wrong to do so, just saying that should state what each number represents. Which kinda makes metacritic averages pointless because the scale reviewers use are different.
Of coarse MGS:GZ will get near perfect scores the Japanese always loved Kojima's games just like FF games. IMO it will get 8's and 9's over here in the states with probably the big negative being the length of the game. I'll be picking it up day 1 and will be trying to achieve 100% as a long time MG fan this will be great to see on PS4.
But even w/ the given length of the game, it's not like the game is 60$. It's 20-30$. So I wouldn't/shouldn't expect a full retail experience, and I hope the reviewers also realize this.
i was worried about MGS:GZ. Not anymore :)
@Fox Yeah because Kojima's games aren't known for their quality... oh wait... Kojima has proved time and time again why he is a reference on this industry but I get it, you're a MGS "hayter" and the buthurt is strong with you.
Hmmm battlefield did pretty good too
Battlefield is very good and mp is excellent, it just should of been released later without bugs this I hope hasnt put people off and in the future too. Damn ea. Was also thinking metal gear gz is a 20 pound game so it should be judged on that for any review so no bad marks for length when it not priced as full game.
why is there no Xbox One reviews on there? they have ps4 reviews.....
Japan considers the xb1 as a dead and nonexisting console. (J/k) actually, like someone already stated, xb1 has not released in Japan yet. Thats why.
oh yeah! sorry lol. stupid moment haha :P
Game Center CX 3... *sob*... Kacho on! (Someone PLEASE localize that thing...)
