I don't have an issue with any of the others, but how can you say games like Resident Evil (which has recently stepped their game up and created a truly great experience) and Final Fantasy (one of the most exclaimed gaming franchise in history) need to end? If you can still make great games, who cares how long the series has been around.

pharmd5819d ago

why all the hate in their heart? I do agree about Medal of Honor though, i like it on PS2 but it clearly has been outdone and needs to give up now

Silellak5819d ago (Edited 5819d ago )

This list fails because it talks about Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, but doesn't include the Sonic games.

When was the last time Sonic had a good game? Seriously?

I've been watching my roommate suffer through the 360 Sonic the Hedgehog game he picked up used, and I feel so bad for him. The game is just a special kind of awful.

BeaArthur5819d ago

pharmd...yeah, like I said everything else wouldn't bother me because they don't seem to have a lot of innovation. You could have grouped Call of Duty in there before they decided to go to modern warfare.

shahinmaki-san5819d ago

This list wrong. Final Fantasy is very good

NOTORIOUSzeke5819d ago

Would you like to explain why extremely popular and fun franchises like, Metal Gear, Street Fighter and DMC need to stop? Those games have far too many fans to just be thrown away like that. Megaman has stopped at 8 a long time ago unless you are referencing spinnoffs like X which has also stopped. That leaves DX which was still fun in its own right. I fail to see validity in your argument.

I do agree with you on the Parasite Eve though.

P.S. The Max Payne formula have used far too many times. If a sequel were to be made it would difficult to make the game feel fresh and stand out from other games like Stranglehold and the like.

i'll slap there mama in the face downward.but seriously the tony hawk shyt is getting on my nerves i wanted tony hawk to be like skate.with the skaters from the tony hawk series.plus skate with no rodney mullen tricks or him.is like the old chicago bulls and no jordan.

Timesplitter145819d ago

The fact that they want to end RE, FF and especially Silent Hill, is blasphemy to my ears

jadenkorri5819d ago

but they have to keeping beating the dead horse, even if the blood i still not spewing out...

my thoughts
what about Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, like cmon half of Nintendo's lineup would be crushed if they stopped making them...

BTW, why is Mario and Link always saving princesses that never put out...

iiprotocolii5819d ago (Edited 5819d ago )

The fact that games have a huge fan base has really nothing to do with where a story can fit. Without a doubt, DMC, MGS and SF are all great games. But my question is where can DMC go right now? Dante is way overdeveloped and, basically, unstoppable as per DMC4. Characters like that get boring _quick_. MGS is by far the greatest espionage game ever created, no argument. MGS4 marks Solid Snake's final chapter in the MGS series... which leads to the question: What will happen after? Solid Snake _makes_ MGS. Everyone knows that after what happened with MGS2: Sons of Liberty (which was still a great game, in my opinion). More prequels?

As for the Street Fighter games, I absolutely love and have always been a fan of the SF franchise. From SF1 to Marvel vs Capcom, I loved them all. But in all honesty, the franchise just brings a "meh" taste to my mouth. I don't know about you and everyone else, but when SF4 was mentioned, I subconsciously said to myself "Another one?" I haven't played it, so I can't really say TOO much about it; Maybe SF4 will shut my thoughts down, but, personally, it's just the same thing. They need to do more SNK crossovers where, at least, it makes it a little more interesting (I like SNK 2D fighter more, personally)

My argument, basically, is that why continue to re-create the same themes when there are other titles that can also be made into successful franchises? I love DMC, MGS, and SF just as much as the next hardcore gamer, but I don't want to be 40 and be playing Street Fighter 20 where Ken and Ryu are still part of the main character list. (Btw, King of Fighters has more titles and I feel the same way). There are far too many games that deserve more attention that developers aren't looking at because of these repetitive franchises. Look at how long it took Capcom to develop another Bionic Commando. Where's great old titles like Section Z, DarkStalkers, 194X games and others? Or Contra, Castlevania, Vandal Hearts, Zone of Enders, etc? Too many other games that NEED attention that aren't getting it, imo.

P.S. You're absolutely right about the Max Payne thing. And SquareEnix, seriously, needs to consider bringing Parasite Eve to this next-gen era... using the white engine. ^_^

barom5818d ago

Final Fantasy and Resident Evil should not be there.

Final Fantasy may have 20+ titles utilizing it's name but every time it comes out. It's very polished and complete (speaking specifically of the true sequels not spinoffs). And although they all share the Final Fantasy game. They're pretty much all different but with some common elements (like items and monsters). They're all in their own world. Also in the most recent one FF XII they even changed the whole combat system.

Resident Evil, all of it's canon titles are great. Check GameRankings for that matter. Not to mention that in RE4 they made the over-the-shoulder view popular with games like Gears Of War, Uncharted, Dark Sector following it's footsteps. Seriously how can you tell this series to stop?

If you read the article he mentions that these franchises do not create anything new. Which is NOT true at all. Both FFXII and RE4, has had a major overhaul regarding gameplay and design. This guy obviously stopped playing these series after a certain point. And cmon dude's on crack, how can you compare Elder Scrolls to Final Fantasy. They're totally different games. It's like comparing Gears Of War and Ninja Gaiden with each other just because they're both action games.

I approved this just to watch the fireworks.

Captain Tuttle5819d ago

It's called discussion or at least it's supposed to be in the Gamer Zone.

Shadow Flare5819d ago

What is it with Final Fantasy? The only similarities between the games is the name of the game, a few enemies, the chocobo's and thats about it. Had the games not been roofed by the 'final fantasy' name, they'd be considered completely different games, because they are. The worlds are different, the culture, characters, battle systems, stories...why the hate? It's got so many games because its successful and hugely popular, and deservedly so

iiprotocolii5819d ago

I agree with the Final Fantasy comment above. It's not the same characters, world, and story. A couple of elements are recycled, but it's not something that kills the game. Final Fantasy is an awesome franchise and I think that, as long as it's characters and story can remain original and creative, they should keep bringin' em on.

The guy forgot to mention the Devil May Cry series which also has to end after 4. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat (which should have _been_ deceased), Sonic, Mario, Tekken, Metal Gear, Mega Man and a couple of others to name a few. How about we talk about what franchises SHOULD be continued...

Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Lunar, Chrono series, Max Payne, Brave Fencer, etc. There are far too many other games that DESERVE sequels and have been overlooked.

14 morons who can't even say why they disagree. Score

wildcat5819d ago

It's hard to just let go of franchises like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy. Not only do they have a strong following, allowing them to increase production values with little to no financial risk, but they also carry positive critical acclaim.

Tony Hawk is the only one that deserves to die. (Skate FTW!)

Alexander Roy5819d ago

What?

MK_Red5819d ago

Stake Cultists united!
Yeah, Skate is indeed the best thing to happen to this sub-genre.

As for MOH, I think with no announcement of a new MOH so far, EA has indeed stopped and ended the franchise for now.

cLiCK_sLiCK95819d ago

Tony Hawk has To go..loved when it came..and now its just over doing it.
Another series that has to is Need For Speed...seriously when did they release a good Need for speed since underground??

No way is FF goin anywhere, it still sells very well so why would they give it up?, and its still one of if not THE best RPG series ever so, no chance.

WWII was has been done to death, the only thing left is a view from germany's side, which no one too date has done or taken the courage to do, or how bout Japanese View on WWII...

Wildarmsjecht5819d ago

When it comes to Final Fantasy, I don't believe it has any reason to end whatsoever, simply because no two installments (save for a couple) are a sequel/prequel involving the same characters. It's always a new plot, a new set of characters, sometimes a new system, new weapons, new things to do, it's all fresh. What do they want? That they change the name? The number sequence? Believe me..there are more series out there that have had a myriad of titles and have changed very little. Where's the complaining involved there? One example....Pokemon. Yea, I said it.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
