Rant Lifestyle goofs around with the casts of Final Fantasy games in this fun slideshow.
In fairness, Barret is just as stereotyped as Sazh. Squall develops well toward the end of VIII, but god he's DREADFUL in Dissidia. Terrible script, terrible delivery. Tidus is awesome. Fuq the haters. Vaan is sort of bratty and annoying, but he's not the worst character in a Final Fantasy game that's for sure. Weird that he was marketed as the main character in XII though. And I don't know, I think Vanille is kind of interesting - just the fact that she hides such dark things from the rest of the gang and puts up this veneer of ditzyness and innocence. It makes her a slightly disturbed character in a lot of ways. I think Vincent is less interesting as a character, more interesting as a kind of big plot point or concept. Dirge of Cerberus has the best story of all the Compilation games too, I don't care what anyone says. I could say the same for Aeris, but I get the impression Aeris would be a similar character to Yuna, just without the melancholy. Kain is good in Dissidia, bit contrived in IV though.
I agree on most of your points, but I think Sazh was my favorite character from XIII. I mean, he just seemed the most human out of any of the characters. He was believable at least, that's what I'm getting at. I don't get the Squall and Tidus hate either man, lol. Loved both of them.
We should all agree Cait Sith sucks and Edward from IV
Balthier deserves some love. If he were the actual main character of FFXII, he might very well be the best protagonist out of all the main games.
Technically, Balthier, Basch and Ashe were the main characters for XII since they had more of a part in the main story than Vaan did. Vaan and Penelo only introduced you to the game.
Vaan is the protagonist. There is a difference between key or main characters and the central character. Plus, in many games (especially JRPG's and Final Fantasy) the protagonist serves to introduce the player to the world.
I laugh at Sazh´s entry. He´s probably my fave char from FFXIII, the guy has a really interesting relation with Vannile, and the most emotional segment in the game for me was Nautilus.
throwing up a picture and maybe half a sentence about a characters does not a decent article make.
These days, it does.
