Batman Arkham Origins exists because Arkham Knight development was taking too long

Arkham series developer Rocksteady says the reason why Warner Bros greenlit Arkham Origins last year was because they didn't want fans to wait until this fall for their next game. They also provide some insight into how much of a role they played on Arkham Origins's development.

We would have waited! Just had to announce it.

Double_O_Revan3855d ago

Exactly! It's not even like it's been many years since AC. It was 2 years ago! There was no need for Origins other then a cash in.

I knew this game was coming anyways. It was a no brainer they were working on a nextgen Batman game.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3855d ago

Figures. The game was sub par.

And yes I definitely would've waited.

-Foxtrot3855d ago

So basically I was kind of right

WB wanted to milk as much out of the Arkham franchise on last gen systems before next gen came around because they knew this game was going to be next gen platforms only.

I mean with them focusing on DLC instead of patches with Origins it's pretty clear Origins is nothing more but a quick cash in.

Glad I never bought it. I'm happy to support Rocksteady's work

AceBlazer133855d ago

Yh but if not for origins , arkham knight would've probably been cross gen so WB could make back money. So ithank you Arkham Origins for making Knight curren gen only.

-Foxtrot3855d ago

Why would it be cross gen, they would of still released it at the same time...by the end of this year and cross gen would of been waaaaaay out of the question by then.

WB knew they wouldn't be able to do that and thats why Origins exists, if Origins didn't exist then Arkham Knight would still be current gen only.

They wouldn't be able to rush Rocksteady or pester them to make a cross gen game, it would take even longer.

GusHasGas3855d ago

Well, Rocksteady did mention that the tools that they're using to create Arkham Knight are mad expensive, to make sure that the graphics and such are beautiful as hell. In that sense, it's understandable that WB may have sold Arkham Orgins to give Rocksteady some cash for the tools.

Also, WB may have been worried that fans would get pissed if no Arkham game was released, so they released Arkham Origins. This reason is what the article talks about.

I'm pretty sure that Arkham Origins was also created to fill in some stuff that'll be in Arkham Knight. Like, for example, maybe Rocksteady always had plans to being the Suicide Squad to their next game, but Origins was created to set up the scene for the Suicide Squad (at the end of the game, Deathstroke is offered a place in the Squad, and the Squad is referenced heavily in AO: Blackgate).

Didn't they already fix most of the bugs tho? Especially the game breaking ones

@Gus

I didn't have any issues either

Overall I think it was a pretty good game

GusHasGas3855d ago

I think so, but there were probably still a lot more minor bugs that hadn't been fixed yet.

I never encountered any bugs or glitches when playing on the 360, right after the game launched, though, so I really don't know what console owners are complaining about. I know, though, that the PC version is supposedly buggy as hell.

imtheman20133855d ago

I could have waited an extra year to play a game developed by Rocksteady, ya know, the team who made the Arkham series great in the first place, rather than playing a half-baked, buggy excuse for a Batman game.

Metallox3855d ago

"Because we like money".

*fixed.

"It’s nice to see Rocksteady support WB Montreal with the impossible task of satisfying hardcore Batman fans who just wanted another game from Rocksteady."

The use of impossible is hilarious to me. LOL!
It was definitely a difficult task for WB Montreal.

Rocksteady Seems To Have Begun Working On Its Next Game Already

After pushing out Suicide Squad, Rocksteady has another project in the works already, as confirmed by an employee's LinkedIn.

SDuck22d ago

Give us more interesting news, like what projects are their old employees working on nowadays

exputers22d ago

Noted. Thank you for your input.

RaidenBlack22d ago

was sad to hear that the new Battinson universe based new Batman game rumor was fake.
Anyways hope rocksteady goes back to its roots for the next game

Inverno22d ago

See ya in 7 years. Watch it be another GaAS.

CobraKai22d ago

Hopefully SSKTJ was a learning lesson. How about a Superman game…. As long as they don’t do anyone dirty like they did to Mr Freeze

Baza22d ago

Couldn’t care less. The Rocksteady of old no longer exists.

6 Games That Genuinely Deserve A Current-Gen Upgrade

Games such as Mad Max, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight desperately deserve a modern-day revisit.

thorstein158d ago

Mad Max is underrated. Such a fun game.

Cacabunga157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.

JonTheGod157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

Probably not very different.

No idea why this article is highlighting recent beautiful graphically-advanced games and saying they need current gen makeovers. They already look better than most new releases; just compare Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad!

exputers157d ago

I see what you did there.

Yi-Long157d ago

It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...

Demetrius157d ago

I'm not into racing games but yeah I even looked at gameplay of that sometimes

redrum06129d ago

It's a shame they cancelled the game. Definitely the best racing game I've ever played on Playstation. Just got GT7, but it feels so slow and less arcade-y, which is to be expected of a sim racer of course, that I just enjoy it less.
Driveclub also graphically looked insanely good for its time. I wonder what a Driveclub 2 would look like for the PS5.

Demetrius157d ago

Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh
