Stranger things have happened, but few marriages in this industry were as shocking as the announced pairing of Canadian developer BioWare and publisher Sega, working together on a Sonic the Hedgehog RPG of all things. The Sonic RPG is well on its way, however, and GameSpy recently had the opportunity to get their hands on Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
While GameSpy shouldn't have expected anything less from BioWare, it's good to see that this isn't going to be some dumbed-down cash-in on the Sonic franchise, but instead may well be one of the more interesting role-playing experiences for the DS.
Despite the fame and popularity of both the studio and the IP in question, not everyone knows that Bioware developed a Sonic RPG prior to them being acquired by EA, Sonic Chronicles for the Nintendo DS, and it was recently detailed in a DidYouKnowGaming video that both Bioware and SEGA were down for a sequel, but it was ultimately canceled for a surprising reason: SEGA was sued for copyright infringement
to be fair tho, the rpg for the DS was a mess.
touchscreen-only was not a good way to make a game like this.
I wish Sega got together with Square and made a Sonic RPG for the Genesis I would have played that.
Just because the first one sucked, doesn't mean Sega should abandon the idea of a Sonic RPG.
