I will never forget PS1 changed the gaming industry while PS2 took it to a level never seen before thank you Sony.

PS1 set the bar for the time and the PS2 met that with a sledge hammer and created a whole new bar that is above all others.

The success of the system can be summed up with one word. Diversity.

It had such a rich diverse library of games that appealed to all types of gamers.

while Genesis is my #1 favorite, I do put the PS2 in my personal top 5.

I don't think anyone can forget the PS2's awesomeness. Many are hoping the PS4 can reach that level.

PS2 certainly deserves the honors for being a game changer in the history of video games. Not every console or gaming company is a member but some other honorees would include Atari, Nintendo and Sega for their respected game changing moves to improve the industry.

Microsoft has to be included in there too. Although Nintendo dabbled with a unique version, and Sega technically introduced online gaming to consoles, Microsoft streamlined it and made it viable in a big way. Credit where it's due, but many genres wouldn't exist on consoles without someone coming forward and creating a viable online solution the way Microsoft did.

Still, I would put the PS2 along with the 3 other companies you mentioned on an entirely different level. The PS1, PS2, and the NES are in their own class altogether in my opinion.

i didnt list MS mainly because what they did was refine the online system to be more attainable. Yet Sega wasnt so much the pioneer of online as it was the one to make it standard for every dreamcast sold.

I guess we could get technical and throw in NEC/Hudson for ushering in the popularity of the CD format for use on the PC Engine and TG16. While not so much a standard yet, it certainly deserves its props for introducing many to the fine audio that is redbook (and the dismal FMV...)

The only people that will ignore the impact of the PS2 are fan boys. It's a shame that a lot of people will think this way & look pass what the PS2 (as well as the PS1) brought to the industry.

Heck i am willing to say the industry is what it is now cause of the PS2.
