How about the abysmal performance on pc and the lack lustre graphics. I'd actually say one of the things wrong with it is the unreal engine its made in. Definitely could have made a better choice there.

themultitap4135d ago

I could've honestly did a top 30 on this one. The PC version does run like garbage for me. I saved that for the review I guess. I'm also told the dev team didn't have enough time to really polish it. I hear that so often now its not even a factor.

Amazingmrbrock4135d ago

It irritates me that all these AAA devs aren't allowed to delay release dates at all. If a game isn't done they should be allowed to hold it back a while to make sure its ready.

What the hell are you guys gaming on, 10 year old PCs?

On my HD 7950 I get a solid 60fps with the game maxed out (minus SSAA). Thief looks fantastic to me. Some of the best lighting and shadows in any game thus far. The tessellation, parallax occlusion mapping, HBAO+, particle and alpha effects, depth of field, screen space reflections, and all the other cutting edge graphical techniques add up to one very nice looking game.

So, again, the game runs beautifully for me, looks amazing, and is a lot of fun. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

("Basher" and "biasbear"...wow, the names fit them extremely well.)

Raf1k14134d ago

That's pretty much what Total Biscuit said in his video about how well it runs and how good the shadows and other effects are.

themultitap4134d ago

I don't think I said the game looks crappy. It does look good. And the tessellation is pretty good. But it just isn't optimized well. Its not a secret, its getting a overall mixed opinion at best.

I'm happy you like it. I don't ever try to try or care to sway anyone's thoughts.

Btw, my Basher name comes from my first gamertag on XBox that was randomly generated. I stuck with not knowing how well it fit haha. Biasbear is named after the boss, Corib3ar. She is a bear.

Theres only need for one thing on this hate list "The game was made"

starchild4134d ago (Edited 4134d ago )

You hatemongers are ridiculous.

themultitap4134d ago

Haha. It has so much potential. A sequel would be great with all the assets and such built.

Raf1k14134d ago

I played the mission where you have to follow the drunk guy. Playing it on Master difficulty there's no way I've ever been in a situation where I could walk near an enemy and not get noticed unless I was behind them.

Maybe the AI issues are on normal difficulty?

The thing that annoys me the most is the city design. While it looks nice there are too many areas with limited options for travelling through as the guards can be difficult to get past.

themultitap4134d ago

I was playing on Master though. The line of sight on guards are very short. Cause I was crouching next to the drunk in that case. Just annoyed the hell out of me.

The city design could be a much more free.

Raf1k14134d ago (Edited 4134d ago )

Yeh the city design is annoying. Seems they simply designed the look of the city which is quite good but didn't design it to allow you to pass guards easily. This is an issue since you have to travel through the city quite a lot betweeen missions.

About line of sight I seem to get spotted quite easily sometimes when crouching from a distance and sometimes I can be quite close and not be seen in the dark.

The stealth in shadows is quite binary though. You're either invisible to AI or you're not. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground.

edit: Agree that a sequel would be good to have. Built on just current gen consoles and PC it could have a city that isn't segmented. And maybe add people living in the houses you steal from as they're always empty.

Thief - Taken From Us Too Soon

The Thief game series has had many ups-and-downs, and 2014's reboot showed a great deal of promise nearly a decade ago.

Notellin700d ago

This would be such a great franchise to reboot. A darker game than Dishonored, but focused around stealth and large scale heists from an oppressive monarchy.

That's probably my dream game. I love immersive sims and stealth!

Noskypeno700d ago

People say they hate forced stealth sections in games. But a game focused on stealth with good mechanics and level design feels refreshing from the guns blazing games which I also enjoy. I really enjoyed playing Splinter cell, a game that not many try to mimic today. Not too many games let you shoot lights out, or throw cans or bottles to distract guards. Sure there are games with stealth options like the new Wolfenstein but it doesn't feel necessary to play it that way. Hitman might be the only game that has that feeling, except for that Korean game that may or may not ever come out.

isarai700d ago

You should try the Sniper Elite games, so good, especially with coop

Notellin699d ago

Same here. I'm glad there are some other people who enjoy these types of games!

@isarai I tried Sniper Elite 5 and ended up really enjoying that one. Went back and played 4 as well!.

ModsDoBetter700d ago (Edited 700d ago )

The last one was a trainwreck and has been in the bargain bin since just after launch. If they bring it back, they need a massive change in direction.

Inverno700d ago

only direction they should take is putting it in reverse and going back to what the originals did. I couldn't finish this game, and I made a choice to never play it again. I watched a video about the og Thief and Deus Ex games and the current AAA standard will forever hold back these games. These 2 games alone had already solved so many problems with modern gaming that I don't think they'll get a chance at something great unless they're made by a dev that actually give a damn.

Jesus the last installment sells at about 2 euro and even that is over paying for it. Absolutely diabolical game

SimpleSlave700d ago

Ups and Down? More like Up, UP, Pot Hole, Free Fall into the Abyss...

Rutaprkl700d ago

Thief Deadly Shadows remaster would be awesome.
