Has anyone upgraded their PS4 yet to 1Tb?

JoGam2176d ago

Are you having any issues? What Brand Hard Drive do you recommend?

dp2774072176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Yea I used the HGST 1.5tb, Runs really well and as stated here its the same brand in the PS4

badz1492176d ago

1TB HGST here too. Got it for around $70 and the process is so easy. My PS3 is living off PS+ for now and that was why I put a 1TB in it too on the same day.

badz1492176d ago

serious question. why did I get a disagree?

MONOLITHICIDE2176d ago

I use the 1TB 5400rpm one that is by HGST travel star and it's quite nice

I'd recommend it as well as it's also the company that made the 500gb ps4 hard deive

fenome2176d ago

Not yet, I need to soon though, before I end up with a bunch of data to transfer over. My PS4 HDD is going in my PS3 as soon as I upgrade.

ziggurcat2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

I have a 1.5TB HGST travelstar drive in my PS4 right now. Will upgrade again once much larger capacities are thin enough.

fenome2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

I think Seagate is close to offering a 2tb with the right specifications soon. I remember hearing about it last year, the Spinpoint M9T. They've been hella hush hush after the initial announcement though. Who knows, hopefully it'll be out soon..

No_Limit2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Mine was upgraded to a 1.5tb drive I andrazon 3 months ago. Super. Easy, just have to re download the OS and updates to the new drive after install and you are set. Note, make sure you check the reviews from other users and see if you have a compatible Had size. It has to be a certain height to fit in the casing on the PS4.

Sorry for the spelling..typing on my Xperia Z1 phone and the key sucks.

I upgraded my PS4 hard drive to 2TBs last week. Here is the process, which includes a link to the same drive I bought and used:

I couldn't find the specifications on that HDD though because it's external, plus it just seems ghetto. I wouldn't trust that, does it spin at 7200 or 5400 RPM? That shit's important, and not worth screwing up your hardware..

I'm thinking more along the lines of this 1.5 terabyte that is made exactly for this kind of thing rather than breaking something open for it. Plus, it's the same price.

EDIT:
Just found out that this made by the same company who makes the actual PS4 HDD so that's a win in my book too.

theXtReMe12176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Its 5400RPM and the drive is made by Samsung. It isnt ghetto and it isnt going to screw up your PS4. The drive inside the external casing just isnt available in an internal version yet. Im guessing they want to make more cash by selling the external at a higher price.

Ive been building computers for 20 years, this drive is no different than any other. Follow the links in the link I provided to find all of the specifications for both the Samsung 2TB drive and the PS4s own. The 2TB drive is faster and uses NCQ and internal flash RAM to load the most used files faster. Something the PS4 drive doesnt do, as it wasnt designed for speed... It was designed for minimal power consumption.

In any case, it is the biggest drive available on the market in its 2.5" form factor at 9.5mm thick.

fenome2175d ago (Edited 2175d ago )

Nice to know, thanks!

EDIT:

Wait, that's the Spinpoint M9T?! I've been wondering when they were gonna release that, I remember when they announced it. So it's only available in external at the moment? This is exactly the one I've been holding out for. Seriously, thank you!

theXtReMe12175d ago

No problem man. I should've posted the link to the information in the first place. I didn't think about it. Definitely check it out. I picked it up for about $110. You should be able to do the same. It's easy to peel out of the case, if you need any help just let me know and I will walk you through it.

stragomccloud2176d ago

Upgrading my PS3 hard drive was one of the best decisions I made.

lemoncake2176d ago

Sony should offer a service for taking back all the unwanted hard drives, would help the environment out a bit. Or offer the console without one for those wanting to instantly upgrade it.

jreeves822176d ago

I put a 1.5tb in mine. I ordered it a week before I got the ps4.
