Xbox One March Update Comes with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Optical Sound

For now, the ‘optical out’ port on the fresh console only backs up two-channel stereo sound, which represents a weird omission- considering that 5.1 optical sound has been a standard feature on consoles from Microsoft and Sony since the original Xbox appeared.

If you look at some other sites you'll see that the fanboys couldn't figure out that X1 came with DTS 5.1 and 7.1

Only the old Dolby 5.1 was added to the patch

GarrusVakarian2180d ago (Edited 2180d ago )

Why mention fanboys?

Just say that the patch adds Dolby 5.1 and leave it at that. Not every article has to have "TEH FANBOIZ!" comments in it.

Volkama2180d ago (Edited 2180d ago )

This is true, but Dolby Digital is very significant to some people as most gaming headsets (Astro, Turtle Beach and such) do not support anything else.

EDIT: And yes as Lukas says, I'm not sure fanboys really come into this one. Or they probably will, but we don't need to encourage it.

No_Limit2180d ago Astro A50 is ready!! Now, hopefully the next update will include the option to use an external hard drive as my drive is about 1/2 full already.

The adapter will be released this Friday, March 7. I pre ordered mine at Gamestop and I am sure other places like Amazon will have them as well on launch day.

Avatars were never mentioned at all in the pre-launch talk of the console, for a while I assumed they were going away and I was more than OK with that.

BUT there they are, reduced to the background doing nothing but still there.

I expect them to get a Kinect-fuelled revamp in the near future, and our 'Avatars' will be replaced by Kinect Sports Champions or something similar. I hope so anyway.
